Good as they are, they pale in comparison to "The Queen Is Dead".

I have to admit to listening more to Moz's solo stuff recently, particularly those two albums, but probably more due to having played the Smiths stuff to death. "Objectively" speaking however, there is no touching The Smiths.

I love Morrissey but no.... :D

Plus I would rank Maladjusted higher than Your Arsenal or Vauxhall.

I'm with OP. I love "Your Arsenal" and "Vauxall and I" and probably played those more than most of the core Smith albums. Those two solo albums were released when I was just starting to really getting into Morrissey/Smiths. I think they imprinted me because I was just starting to discover the music.

As for The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead" never clicked with me the way "Meat Is Murder" and the self titled debut did. "Louder Than Bombs" got the most spins of any Smiths release for me. man I wore that cassette out!

I have nothing against The Smiths or Morrisey, I was just never a fan. I kinda dig "Your Arsenal", though.

I love Vauxhall and I, but think it would be even better with Marr!

While I respect anyone's opinion on such a subjective topic, and I will vigorously defend anyone's right to offer such...

    ...that's crazy talk.

Definitly those albums are on par with the best Smiths Lp "Hatful Of Hollow" which is a compilation. I don't think the Smiths got an entire album right, even "the Queen Is Dead". Their singles were untouchable though. So I agree with the OT.

I must say I would include the 3cd Morrissey singles boxset or at least "Bona Drag" which are also fine compilations.

    I stand by it. :)

I'm not calling those albums bad or anything! I think those albums came out as I was discovering more music other than Morrissey. Not that I ignored him or those albums. But Maladjusted kind of brought me back in. I think we are all biased by the time we listened/got into him etc.

On the whole, I prefer Morrissey's solo stuff to The Smiths.

To compare it with another 80's band whose output exceeds the lead singer's solo career - I find Sting's best solo albums to be far closer in quality to the Police, than Morrissey's albums are in comparison to the Smiths.

    Marr w/out Morrissey > Morrissey w/out Marr.

    IMO
