For some reason folks see Elvis as an easy target.
It says more about them than him really.

He would probably say because Parker handed him an invoice for a couple million dollars of deferred commission payments due.

It's a shame Elvis didn't know the truth.

So, the question could be: Why did you not contact Ed Hookstratten to go over your options when you briefly fired Tom Parker in 1973 which lead to Parker handing you an invoice of deferred commission payments due?

That being said, that would not be the one question I would ask Elvis.

This is exactly what I would have asked him too. I never understood why he was so beholden to Col. Parker, especially in the last five years of his life when Parker was doing more harm than good.

People forget, Elvis was a poor farm boy from Mississippi who had really not more than the love of his parents. He made it big almost overnight and he was one guy (versus being in a group). Can you imagine the s**t swirling in his brain... He had it all whenever he wanted - wine, women and song, as they say. He started out with some damn fine recordings. He did lots of movies, because that's what pop stars did. He kept the train rolling and it caught up with him. Drugs...(it was the culture then). Yes men. Bad accounting. How is today any different?

If I could ask him one question it would be a 2-parter--

If you had it to do over again what would you change and would you still be alive?
