Howabout if I invite Ringo Starr, Mike Nesmith, Theodore Bickel, Frank Zappa and Jack Nicholson...and tell half of them they're here to do a table read of Head...and tell the other half they're here to do a table read of 200 Motels...? :D

Branagh and Thompson were married. Branagh had an affair with Bonham Carter, and then divorced Thompson. The table talk would be interesting.

    That's an interesting selection.

Bow and Peterson led tremendously sad lives. Candy died young (and I've always been under the impression that he was basically an unhappy person). Murray has a history of egregiously not getting along with people. I don't know anything of Cathryn Harrison, other than she's a part of the Harrison show-biz clan and died before she reached her 60th birthday.

It could be a party you'd want an Ingmar Bergman to film. In black and white.

I hope that you can get your dinner parties through before I die because I'm pretty sure that Marlon Brando, Sean Penn Nicholas Cage and Robin Williams will be permanently booked torturing me at my dinner party in Hell once I've shuffled off this mortal. I can't see why any of you would want them in your homes.

I'm also a bit worried at how many of you think that “dinner party” is a euphemism for something more steamy. If I'm serving these people supper I think I'd rather not be trembling with apprehensive lust at the same time.

    So, here are five:
    • Joshua Malina - seems like a really nice guy and can tell me all about The West Wing, my favourite TV Series
    • Emily Mortimer - another Sorkin alumna, unquestionably glamorous (so shoot me) but also a smart cookie (studied English and Russian Literature at Oxford)
    • Jason Bateman - huge likability and a very varied resumé
    • Patrick Macnee - in addition to playing John Steed in The (original and still the best!) Avengers, he was amazingly clubbable and had an extremely colourful background, including being expelled from Eton for selling pornography and making book
    • Tamsin Greig - a charming conversationalist with a good sense of humour, who would fit in with the other very well

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

I don't do parties. Little desire to witness any mom/dad dancing or forced jollity. Might extend the offer of a bite to eat though. No dead bodies around my dining room table. It's lunch, not a séance. Send invites to......

I'm surprised no one threw some actors and critics... Some were friends, ala Pauline Kael and Robert Altman.
