The value we put on things amazes me sometimes. I guess deep down we all want to hold onto things, even when those things didn’t belong to us.

I’m amazed at the amount of money spent on preserving things that will one day deteriorate anyway

In Scaduto's defense, AJ Weberman is the garbage digger.

Ok but which of the current writers might be remembered in 200-300 years as Dylan very likely will?

I have a rather funny Andy Warhol & garbage related story.
Our state art gallery is close to a car park that my wife & I use when visiting the city & we sometime have a look at what's hanging on the walls.

My stance on art is fairly simple. If I like it I like it if I don't like it I don't.

On this particular day the gallery had an Andy Warhol Pop Art display. As my wife & I strolled around we came upon 2 well dressed gents holding a heated discussion whilst standing in front of the famous soup can art. Basically the argument was over the "value" of the collection. One pro the other con.
One of the men turned to me an asked "what do you think" .
    I replied "I like it"
to which he responded "Oh for ****s sake" & stormed off flapping his arms about & muttering to himself.
The other man then said "Don't worry about him he's only the Gallery Director"

    One mans junk.....

Yeah, we'll all be dead someday, and the sun will flame out in 4 billion years too.

Why spend money on anything at all? Just kill yourself now.

I'm happy Bowie was a pack rat who saved everything, and had the means to keep it. David Bowie Is... was an amazing exhibit, and I'm glad I got the chance to see it.

Jimmy Page is the same way. I don't think he's ever sold anything. He still has his first electric guitar.

I'm a casual Dylan fan, but Bob's importance can't be disputed, and it's going to last. If Dylan himself isn't the one to keep his own stuff, it's great that someone else is doing it.

I think someone should buy, restore and preserve the two Rudy Van Gelder recording studios. It's staggering to think how much American recording history was performed and documented in those two rooms.

The National Trust in the UK are buying and preserving Beatles related property.
I can see Dylan being in that category in the US. Whether it is a charity organisation or private individuals, such 'pop' musicians are and have become canonised. Their lives a matter of cultural importance.

The one closest to me in Englewood Cliffs - the second one, I think - hosted a listening party for the release of the lost/resurfaced Coltrane album Both Directions At Once. I think it's being maintained and somebody's funding it.

Whew, good. I figured our best chance might be an eccentric Chinese multi-billionaire who moved the whole thing -- from the foundation to the roof -- to an airplane hanger or geodesic dome in Beijing or something.

Come to think of it, a couple friends of mine recorded there after Rudy's death.

Mind you, I don't know *exactly* who's keeping the studio going. God forbid it ever ends up in China.

I read the Bible cover-to-cover twice, and lots of it too many times to count. King James Version - a little closer to the original meaning than something from 1996.

Thanks for the advice though. Take care.
