Thanks very much for having an open question thread.

I have the DCC LP of Stokowski doing Villa Lobos and Prokofiev. I wonder why that LP was chosen and was there anything interesting about working on that tape? Thanks again.

    @Steve Hoffman:
    1. What do you feel was your best mastering job?
    2. What inspired you to get into this field?
    3. Have you ever personally met any of the artists you’ve mastered?

Have you met any or all of the Fab Four in person?

What's the oldest recording you've remastered and what's the newest one?

    Love this thread!!

    A) Can you nudge someone at Acoustic Sounds to do another run of the Charlie Brown Christmas 45rpm? :D

    B) What’s your second-in-line preferred version of this title?

Are you a coffee drinker? Favorite coffee? Frequency of consumption?

    Favorite foods?

If you could only listen to music on one stereo receiver for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?

Was work already in progress when the planned Audio Fidelity
Vince Guaraldi Greatest Hits was jettisoned?
Did you audition any of the tapes?

I really wanted that one to be released :shake:

What would you charge to master some recordings my band made decades ago when I was in high school? ;)

Do you ever get silly requests like this from acquaintances who don't really understand what you do?

Steve, is there a personal favorite album that got away? By that I mean that the plans were made for you to remaster it, but, for one reason or another, the plans fell through.

    No, Jackson wants added echo.

No plans but the fact that SA exists in a non-compressed version is some kind of crazy breakthrough. Hope everyone has their copy.

It was chosen because it has a three-channel 1/2" tape and a 35mm as well. Can fix bad edits, etc. Also I like the album.

    All of them.

I needed to control the sound of my releases better.

    Many!

    Yes, three of them, actually.

It's not Acoustic Sounds, it's the licensor that is the stumbling block for a repress.

Second is the old OJC Fantasy CD from the 1980s.

I mastered Vince's Greatest Hits from all the original tapes. Then Concord issued something and AF thought it would kill sales so it was scrapped. I have a CD-R but that's all that remains, unless Kevin Gray kept the DSD master.

Steve, having done the amazing Who's Next I have collected in all the variations on CD, my question is was it just the era, the bands involved, or the studio personnel like Glyn Johns, that made Olympic Studios so magical? The new Axis SACD is a revelation, and so much of it was done there, so my question.

When I visited London first time, I HAD to go, it's a wonderful movie theater and cafe now, but wow, what was done there is mind boggling to all SHF member collections.

Almost got the Stones catalog for Gold CD though. That would have been neat. J. Klein was interested but it got too crazy.
