Musician is no more. I’m not sure about the Guitar mags but the last one I ever read was very poorly written.
Tape Op is not bad and it’s free as far as I know.

As a Bobby Darin fan, which version of Mack the Knife is your go to version?

For the stereo version, I found this on YouTube. Not sure if the multi-tracks for this song were lost in the 1978 fire, but it seems to be remixed and cleaner than the album version on "That's All".

    Do Mastering Engineers have groupies?

If so, how do you fight them off?

Yeah, fighting all those guys off must be a challenge!

    Mr. Hoffman,

When you remaster an album do you get all the tracks/stems from the original recordings? If not, how do you manage to isolate parts that have been mixed together? For instance, like a vocal that has some instrument with it.

How much top-end is there on modern LPs? By modern, I mean from the mid-80s onward. It is my understanding that although vinyl is capable of very high frequency response, due to limitations, there’s not much going on above 15 kHz. Is that right?

    Mr. Steve Hoffman:

How about mastering Moody Blues classic albums from 1967-1972 or the 1974 compilation 2 LP set "This Is The Moody Blues"?

What made you want to become a mastering engineer? Also what does it take to become one and what bs goes with the territory?

Steve, with the issue of tape deterioration could you not copy master tapes onto new tapes to help preserve the analog sound? I know you lose a little with a copy but you would still have a solid analog source. Is that worth while in your opinion? Also love this Forum and this perticular thread. Thanks.
