I actually agree with this.... I have an old (early 90's) Kenwood system and I love it. The only thing I might upgrade is the turntable as they're historically bad, and also maybe the speakers.

Google is the only way I search this forum. Just include "Steve Hoffman forums" in your search. Works like a charm.

Not needed. In fact, I get consistently good results just by adding "steve hoffman" to my searches.

    Example: LMGTFY

If you want to restrict the google search results to this site, you must include "site:stevehoffman.tv", without the quotes. Otherwise all you've done is add the words/phase Steve Hoffman Music Forum to what google uses in its search.

Played it over the weekend. Best source for "I've got you under my skin"?
    It sounds great.

I now have and have cleaned an original mono London 45 of Paint it Black.
What can I say, Huge! Much better than album or greatest hits version. Better than the Decca 45 too, which surprised me.
    1. This is a dedicated mono mix, right? sure sounds like it
    2. This mix is Dense, right?. There is a LOT going on
    3. The distortion I hear on Jaggers vocals, that's on the tape, right? Over-saturation?
    4. That drum opening at volume blows you away...
    5. Straight from the master tape?
Never heard Paint it Black like this.

Interesting and I well believe it but isn't the US Mono Aftermath a fold down of sorts and not a dedicated mono mix unlike Between the Buttons? (Or so the Mono thread would have us believe.)

That's what I'm curious. It sounds like a dedicated mono mix, but....

Of course it’s a dedicated mono mix. Best sounding.

The 45 is. But the LP is a fold-down.

    Hi Steve,

Do you think you will ever get a shot at The Cure’s catalog?

The first time in my young life that I learned the difference between sound quality on two different versions of the same recording. Our stereo AFTERMATH had PAINT IT BLACK in nice stereo but the mix was weak and there was no top end and no bottom end no matter how loud we turned up the stereo. The 45 (which we bought AFTER we had the album) had all of bass and treble and punch that was lacking in the stereo. Our conclusion was that all of the good sound was there on both versions but the stereo LP for some reason had been compromised by lack of fidelity, either on purpose or by accident.

    It was all confusing..
