What's the real reason the boards were taken down? It strikes as unexplainable.

    IMDb speak ..

Certain film boards, too much negative criticism on said film /actor possibly affecting product sales.

    Imo..

Message board, by and large had continued information of all films /actors from a positive perspective.

I still say Hollywood had something to do with it.

The boards for old TV shows and movies were a gold mine. The boards for current movies were a cesspool. Too much trouble to moderate I expect.

    IMDb Message Boards - IMDb

The IMDb Message Boards passed away Sunday night, February 19, 2017. The forum had learned of its terminal condition a few weeks earlier.

The IMDb MB had enjoyed a mostly well-behaved childhood, but became far more difficult to handle around 20o7 after being introduced to video games and the subgroup that plays them. A later interest in political matters would unfortunately develop into a pathological obsession, ultimately contributing to its premature demise.

The forum is survived by thousands of devoted users.

The IMDb MB asked that it be remembered as a place where movie lovers were able to exchange information and ideas, and that memorials in its name NOT be posted on Facebook or Twitter.

Exactly this for me as well. Actually, that's a lot like the YouTube comments. The newrr something is, especially if it skews younger, the trolls come out in force. But on older or more obscure the material, the comments can be quite good.

I was definitely disappointed to lose the comment boards on IMDB. I have never posted in them since Amazon forced me to use my real name, but I have been a reader for years. The comments are always the first place I went when doing research on a movie or tv. Or when wanting to think through something afterwards.

Why would you expect the message boards to come back? They just got rid of them for good reasons...

That doesn't mean they didn't have good reasons for getting rid of them. They would have kept them if they thought there were good reasons to keep them...

Also, remember that you didn't have to pay to keep it going.

What do you mean "paid members"? You could/can pay for IMDB Pro but that has nothing to do with the message board which were always free.

It's just a shame there isn't some kind of Network where you can be Social which didn't exist in 1997... Oh well. :)

I have no reason to go to IMDB anymore. Part of the fun was to read the trolling and the occasional smattering of good information.

its weird, since they took down the message boards I never went back to imdb, not sure what that new site is but doesn't really look like its got much to it, I guess the main site is happy getting the ad money for trailers etc but I don't watch those
