IMDB still alright for a quick check on film ratings.

I also look for cast and awards to see how it was received when it came out.

  12. Corporate Hollywood's marketing machine has put the squeeze on just about every decent movie forum. Hollywood isn't happy with fans criticizing their movies online. It's that simple. If you ever thought some posts about a movie before release seemed phony on certain sites, they possibly are. When a movie's marketing budget can exceed $100 million, paying teams of viral marketers to hype it up on social media is an afterthought in the budget.

You'll see this often on sites with very young demographics.:shh:

Some IMDb (a lot ) of IMDb user reviews give latest movies a solid 10/10,then you get ( scroll down ) a solitary 1/10.

If your getting free theatre tickets I guess there’s going to a certain bias. Saying that no need for gushing reviews. Critical review/opinion is more warranted.

Ironically the forums that sprang up ( existing) after IMDb message boards closed. Never appealed to me.Impossible to replica what IMDb originally had.

  21. Certainly not the bigger ones like Reddit, which are heavily astroturfed. You'll get more honest opinions on movies on sites like this one, simply because it doesn't register on Hollywood's radar. The most unpolluted forums are usually sites dedicated to a different purpose or topic, but have their own movie sections.

I'd also suggest specific genre movie sites, which don't receive the same amount of moderation and marketing focus. Horror is one genre you can find relatively free discussion on at various sites.

Letterboxd is a decent compromise between a forum and reviews from normal people if you can get enough active users in your circle to get debate going on each others reviews.

Also sort reddit by controversial or new and it becomes a lot easier to browse.

Yep. The existing content was the best part. It's very frustrating that it could just be wiped out.
