The IMDB people seem to be very specific that they *don't* plan to archive the info themselves (or at least won't share the archive), but I'm curious how difficult it would be for a "user" out there to archive all of the data from the user end.

There's a lot of obscure info there. Sometimes I'd look up a new indie movie or documentary, and the IMDB board would be a great history of how the film had played at various festivals and would show a history of all the failed attempts to get the film distribution, etc. There's a ton of weird info like that on there; a "history" of sorts for certain films.

    user archive data"
    A mammoth task methinks.
    Maybe the facsimile IMDB 2
    Could attempt it

The problem is, how do you mine that data?

It seems to me that people who are really upset with IMDb's decision to eliminate the comment board tend to be the type of people who enjoy having less-than-illuminating discussions.

Unfortunately this is how we communicate now. I don't blame them for phasing the comments out.

Luckily we are moderated here or it would be 90% negative babbling.

The appeal of IMDb was each film had its own message board. This V.2 doesn't have that feature. But, as a stop gap perhaps useful.

Did you intend for that to be insulting to a number of posters in this thread?

What is that you're basing this on?

^^ This particular website may not last given the platform that they are using. Apparently, it's a free software, but will not be in the long run. Anyway, another forum has opened that will not be subject to severely escalating fees (or so I'm told). I hope all IMDBers and folks here will sign up:

I had a look about and nothing compares to IMDb ie, every film with its own message board.

That's really the key thing. A segregated board for every movie, TV show (episode even if people post a message), actor/actress, director, producer, etc. No general board can re-create that.

Just hope IMDb change their mind. Maybe when the viewing figures drop.

Very useful for me when I missed the point of something in an episode/film and somebody else who missed the same point asked the question on the message board.

I hope everyone is prepared to enjoy my future IMDb posts here instead. I have very strong opinions on Film Noir, Ingmar Bergman and THE JEWS

iOS was a bit of a pain with their app to get to the main board you always had to sign in regardless if your were already signed in via app.

    Can't see anything replacing it.
    Not the same accessibility ie;
movie with message board..or TV show for that matter

I've never found the boards to be useful or a worthy place to spend my time. Good riddance to them, I say.
