Janis Joplin, "Me And Bobby McGee"

My fave version of this classic, but the Roger Miller, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Lee Lewis(among others)versions aren't shabby, either. Timeless tale of wanderlust and lost love, perfect for Janis, as she lived some of it out.

    Moby Grape, "Motorcycle Irene"

From their second album, WOW(unfairly maligned, IMHO), and a pretty fair track.

    "America" -- Simon and Garfunkel

Wonderful images of two people on a bus going cross-country, chatting with the passengers, pretending that certain ones are different from what they seem... "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike," indeed.

    "Faster" -- George Harrison

His tribute to Niki Lauda and the racers of Formula 1 cars. Should have been a single in the US (though I think it was in the UK).

It was indeed a UK release and a pic disc at that.

Remember that part of the song where they're "...playing games with the faces..."? Well, whenever I hear that line I always get this image in my head that the couple is playing a few hands of poker or something with Rod, Woodie and the rest of the band. Weird, I know. But it's true.

Tom Waits - Diamonds On My Windshield

Its calls up vivid images, for me anyway, of late night driving in the rain.

Don't know if Bradley mentioned this one, but well, lazybones won't bother to look, so:

Del Reeves, "Looking At The World Through A Windshield"

#5 C&W; no crossover, though; Reeves never did get much that way.
