Looking forward to this! Out Nov. 27th, Esoteric is releasing a 7-disc remastered compilation of the band's Atco releases as well as the two Fillmore sets which were previously released first by Rhino Handmade and then Wounded Bird. You can read the full details of the release on the Cherry Red site: Iron Butterfly: Unconscious Power - An Anthology 1967-1971, 7CD Remastered Box Set - Cherry Red Records

...but the key paragraph of the contents — no track listing yet — tells what will be in the set, including the true mono versions of Heavy and Live. Persumably stereo versions will be included as well. Mono versions, some promo only, of In-a Gadda-Da-Vida, Ball and Metamorphosis were fold-overs:

"UNCONSCIOUS POWER – AN ANTHOLOGY 1967 – 1971 features all of the albums issued on Atco, all newly re-mastered from the original master tapes, and additionally includes the rare mono mixes of the albums HEAVY and LIVE, (the only true separate mono mixes of their albums), both previously unreleased on CD, along with two CDs of recordings made at the Fillmore East in New York City on the 26th and 27th April 1968. It also includes all of the band’s US non-album singles and single edits and a lavishly illustrated booklet with a new essay featuring interviews with Ron Bushy and Mike Pinera and a poster."

    • FEATURING 87 TRACKS ON 7 CDs INCLUDING THE ALBUMS HEAVY, IN A GADDA DA VIDA, BALL, LIVE & METAMORPHOSIS
    • WITH 25 BONUS TRACKS (18 OF WHICH ARE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED ON CD) DRAWN FROM RARE MONO MIXES AND SINGLES
Amazon US has it as a pre-order at the pricey $60.99. Amazon UK erroneously lists it as "temporarily out of stock" with no price, but they're almost always much cheaper on box sets like the Jethro Tull titles etc.. ImportCDs is the place to go for now at $36.59 and only $2.99 shipping. A reminder if you use PayPal you'll get charged at the time of order but if you put it directly on a credit card — as ImportCDs offers — they, like Amazon, don't charge until it ships.

Saw these guys in 95 when Ingle came back. No Braun of course but 3/4 classic lineup. I got a weakness for this band. back in high school in mid 70s I traded hendrix at monterey for Ball cuz it looked so exotic. it’s too bad they didn’t continue with the new direction they had on Metamorphosis. The mid 70s albums were hard to get into. I think their career would have been much different if they hadn’t blown off woodstock.

How was the Live album released in mono in 1970? Atlantic issued a lot of fake mono to radio stations at the time, but this one was real?

they really should have worked out some kind of cross-license and got 'scorching beauty' and 'sun and steel' on there.

then they could have sold it as the complete collection +

My sentiments have already been expressed in previous posts. But I'm real excited about this and must chime in. I feel like the Iron Butterfly (especially the earlier incarnations) was a more musically competent band than they've ever gotten credit for.

It'll be released on what would have been Jimi Hendrix' 78th birthday, no less. Bring It On!!

This set seems great from what has been mentioned so far. I wonder if the non LP early singles released on other labels besides Atco will be a part of this box set? I had been considering for years getting the live at the Fillmore 2CD set that was a re-released by Rhino after the Rhino Handmade box. To have it included here with the singles and any unreleased material is just great.

This box set contains the early non Atco single, "Don't Look Down on Me" (Previously Unreleased on CD) and "Possession" (1967 Recording) (Previously Unreleased on CD) which is different from the album version. This single was cut with the original guitarist Danny Weis but was not released until 1970. Then Erik Brann replaced him in time for IAGDVD. I wonder if the "Evil Temptation" single will be included? It's not listed so far.

I'm glad to see Iron Butterfly getting some attention, getting some love.

I'm not personally interested in a re-release of stuff I already have, I don't care about mono mixes, etc. but I'm happy that there are people interested in this. I love Iron Butterfly.

Here's the track listing as shown on ImportCDs. The good news? It has two of the three early pre-album singles, the different version of "Possession" and "Don't Look Down On Me." The frustrating news? Of those three tracks that were on 45s, it leaves off just one: "Evil Temptation." At least you can still get it on the Cleopatra release Live in Sweden release, which adds all three as bonus cuts, but why/how could they miss or leave off that one track? As expected, the Heavy and Live discs have both the stereo and mono mixes on the sane disc.

I think "Evil Temptation" may have been omitted since the only member of Iron Butterfly that supposedly plays on it is Erik Braun. Doug Ingle denies playing on it and the drumming is not like that of Ron Bushy according to Doug Ingle. It is believed that some studio musicians played the other instruments. Your Live in Sweden is a later live version of this song with lyrics added as it was played live throughout their four year run.

Evil Temptation on the early non Atco single is an instrumental. They latter added vocals to it when they played it live.

Evil Temptation was also reissued on the Cleopatra/Purple Pyramid CD/LP "Live At The Galaxy 1967" but this is a live version with vocals. The studio single instrumental version has remained unissued as far as I know.

I have almost all of this but couldn't pass it by. ImportCDs price was $37 or so and $3 shipping ... done!

Cool band. I can sit through "In-A-Gadda" like once a decade, but the other stuff is good.

Saw the "In-A-Gadda" band two or three times and then the Mike Pinera outfit. All good shows. Way the hell back then.
