16 tracks in that setlist - I could live without hearing these live ever again. - The Clansman - The Trooper - overplayed - Wicker Man - Sign of the Cross - Flight of Icarus, can't say I ever loved this one - Fear of the Dark, overplayed - Iron Maiden - overplayed x 1,000 ...not even close to being the best song on the debut, why they keep playing this I'll never know - Evil Than Men Do - not a fan of this one - Run to the Hills - overplayed
At this point in the bands career, the chance of anything from SIT or No Prayer is all but gone, however much I’d pay to hear it. I honestly thought a Caught Somewhere or Sea of Madness might’ve made the set. And despite zero chance of it ever happening, Montsegur, Starblind or Isle of Winds would have been nice. Back to the ROIO for SIT tracks live... Still genuinely pleased that the Blaze era has a couple of look ins though.
I have tickets to the first Helsinki show, it will be the first Maiden show for me, although i saw Bruce "Solo" in Tampere, Finland on Oct 23, 1998. Adrian was on guitar. The set list seems OK, if Run to the Hills is excluded it's not the end of the world. I was a member of Iron Maiden fan club in 1982 and still have the first 4 fan club magazines in mint condition, anyone interested just PM me could let them go at this stage.
It's a shame too, since those two albums have some great tracks. At least we know that they'll never play a song that hadn't previously been played live. It's easier to know that 40% of the catalog will never be played. No matter how many people clamor for Alexander, it will never happen.
Having seen them ten times since 1985 I could do without a lot of the 'old favorites.' I understand that there are new fans who may not have seen them. I'd love it if they could play something from every album... Prowler Murders in the Rue Morgue Invaders Where Eagles Dare Flash of the Blade Alexander the Great The Clairvoyant Tailgunner Judas My Guide Sign of the Cross Futureal Nomad Montsegur The Legacy Coming Home Death or Glory
That hanging Spitfire is ridiculously cheesy... and not in a good way!!! What exactly is the point of the new tour, other than money...?
Bruce made it clear when he rejoined in 1999 that he was not coming back to do a one off album or become a nostalgia act. At that point they put together a ten year plan to alternate new album/tour with old stuff tours. They've followed that pretty accurately. I give them props for sticking to it. if you don't want to hear the new stuff, stay home, they'll be back in a year or two to play favorites. The trouble is they ran out of Eras to do for the favorites tours. Without a framework they seem to go back to the standards. Granted they are not young men anymore, but neither were Rush. I'd like to see Maiden play longer shows with an intermission like Rush did. There's a lot of material to cover.
It fits the song just fine, the new tour is a legacy show which is par for the course for them the last 20 years. New album support tour, legacy show of some kind, new album tour, legacy show...rinse/repeat.
It might be interesting for them to do a fan vote set list. They sort of did one for the Ed Hunter tour in 1999. Social media has come a long way since then,
They could still have toured behind the Raising Hell DVD! Maybe we'll get that, though I imagine Fear of the Dark is not far enough removed from the recent Seventh Son tour. What I'd REALLY like to see is a rarities tour. Stuff they haven't done in YEARS or not at all. Imagine "Flash of the Blade" live!!!!
And that's exactly my point; it's the now-common 'never-ending tour' approach with so-called legacy acts, they make their money on tours and merch not albums anymore (those like Maiden that actually bother to put out new albums anymore, that is!)... not that I begrudge them doing that, but by doing a tour not in support of an album every couple of years just to play/fans to hear the classics for the umpteenth time, isn't that the very definition of a nostalgia act? And I really don't think Maiden need the money anymore... not even Janick Gers, and he's the last of the current line-up to have joined. I don't know, maybe I'm just an old fart... give me the days when bands toured to support an album... and when that was finished, they went back into the studio to do another album... I just hate this whole nostalgia thing; Maiden tours would be a lot more special if it was only when they put out a new album, like AC/DC. Again, only my own humble opinion, of course... and get off my lawn, you kids, whattya think this is, Disneyworld!? I dunno, kids these days, back in my day... etc, etc.
I remember when Metallica did this a few years ago - cool chance to hear something different, I thought ... until the majority seemed to just vote for the same ol’, same ol’!
Well there's that. They could also look at the fan vote and play what they want anyway. This was the Ed Hunter fan vote result. 1. "Iron Maiden" (Live) Steve Harris 4:27 2. "The Trooper" Harris 4:11 3. "The Number of the Beast" Harris 4:51 4. "Wrathchild" Harris 2:54 5. "Futureal" Harris, Blaze Bayley 2:54 6. "Fear of the Dark" Harris 7:17 7. "Be Quick or Be Dead" Bruce Dickinson, Janick Gers 3:24 8. "2 Minutes to Midnight" Adrian Smith, Dickinson 6:00 9. "Man on the Edge" Bayley, Gers 4:11 10. "Aces High" Harris 4:29 11. "The Evil That Men Do" Smith, Dickinson, Harris 4:34 12. "Wasted Years" Smith 5:05 13. "Powerslave" Dickinson 6:48 14. "Hallowed Be Thy Name" Harris 7:14 15. "Wrathchild '99" Harris 2:56 1. "Run to the Hills" Harris 3:54 2. "The Clansman" Harris 8:59 3. "Phantom of the Opera" Harris 7:06 4. "Killers" Harris, Paul Di'Anno 5:00 5. "Stranger in a Strange Land" Smith 5:43 6. "Tailgunner"
So they should stop doing what they love doing because they don't need the money? Besides, Iron Maiden puts out new material as often as most artists these days, and more often than many others, especially those in their age group.
