In fact listening to any of 2000s albums onwards on current CB cut vinyl compared to originals helps to appreciate them a lot.
Toni (and Kim Wilde for that matter) holds a special place in my heart...but we're talking about the top tier vocalists in my world.
I got Italian copies of Piece of Mind, NotB, Killers and SiT at a garage sale in upstate New York a few years ago, along with 80 other metal records. Four-for-a-dollar. A memory I will take to the grave.
If Dickinson was in that list he would be near the bottom for me (although ahead of Hughes who would be a magnificent singer if he stopped screaming for 2 seconds). Dickinson is unique, no-one sounds like him, but the nickname 'air raid siren' is very appropriate. He makes a hell of a noise but it is not the most musical or controlled sound. I think it was Curveboy who described him as 'straining' earlier in this thread and I totally get that. I don't think he actually is straining or struggling to reach the notes but the sound he makes has that quality about it - I can't describe it better than that with my limited knowledge of singer technical terms. Bruce is perfect for Maiden though and I wouldn't change a thing.
Dance of Death and Final Frontier are albums that I didn’t get into right away. Time has given me the opportunity to appreciate these albums. Actually that can be said for the X Factor as well.
Since this seems to work as "Maiden all inclusive" thread I might as well ask: What's so great about Italian pressings of vintage Iron Maiden records? No disrespect intended, my Italian "A Night Of The Opera" cut holds itself well against the 1975 UK... I guess "Blair"s the name.
The only element of interest is that "To Tame a Land" is called "Dune" on PoM, which is also a gatefold. As far as I recall the sound quality is poor.
Ya that's why it came up, someone mentioned that earlier today or last night and posted photos so I replied. My Italian has Dune on both cover and label as well. The US vinyl kicks the *** out of it though.
Ian is...spotty for me. I think he CAN do it when he wants to, but he didn't do it often and seemed to be playing a bit of a role vocally if that makes any sense. That isn't to take away from the absolute magic of Child In Time or any number of songs.
I think this is a new addition (I don't remember seeing this in their catalog of available albums), added to streaming services this week. Iron Maiden - Beast Over Hammersmith (from Eddie's Archive).
Excellent find! Yep, seeing lossless Beast Over ‘Ammersmiff on Apple Music (will replace my lossy CD rips I’d uploaded to my iCloud Music Library).
I have the CD of "Best of the B-Sides" and it doesn't include "Total Eclipse" - did they add it there when they took it back off the latest "Number of the Beast" editions? It might be my favourite song of theirs from 1982.
I would put Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin (Jag Panzer, Satan's Host, Titan Force, The Three Tremors) on my list with most of those.
