According to what I've learned in this forum, I guess I've found a good example of an overcompressed CD.

I'm actually listening the Raw Power remaster of Iron Maiden's 'Somewhere in Time'.
Do you agree that this album sounds WAY overcompressed?

Thanks in advance for your input. :edthumbs:

I've heard worse but yes it is compressed.

I didn't think the Maiden remasters were too bad, but I'm lucky enough to have saved the Castle reissues.

If you want a disturbing example of overcompression, check out the new Maiden, Dance of Death, or the recent Judas Priest remasters compared to the originals.

Well Priest Live has extra tracks. I have the remasters and will have to live w/ them as they have the bonus tracks.

Somewhere In Time remaster is a textbook example of compression done badly. The dynamics on my fave Maiden track "Stranger In A Strange Land" are completely ruined. Reversed actually. I have a cassette made from the LP in '86 that sounds better.

Welcome, Rotel! Priest remasters are BAD indeed. That waveform confirms it. Ouch.

I think Jon Astley's Priest remasters sound like DCC compared to Maiden's crap series. And sure Somewhere in Time is probably the worst one, though debut and Piece of Mind are not far behind. I got them all in one day and then had to trade them and start my search for Castle 2-CD mid 90's reissues.

    That's awful!
Though I had no choice than to buy the remaster, I recently burned a copy of the Capitol edition which is much better to my ears. More dynamic.
