I wasn't planning on getting these until they sucked me in with the box angle...but I'm only getting them as collector pieces to look at...got the original US black vinyl from way back (not that I listen to them these days)...

Thanks guys for your opinions thus far. I agree with what you're saying for the most part.

Those 45rpm reissues could have been so amazing. Everytime i play them i have to ask what were they doing?

Yeah, the Metallica reissues were disappointing overall.

I had Master and it was lousy. I sold it off without any regrets.

Iron Maiden: Overall presentation and quality of the jacket is excellent, colours are sharp/vibrant, it looks great. The actual disc is perfectly flat, plays very well (well centered) and for a pic disc it's pretty quiet (at least compared to my original CDN pressing) all I can hear is that almost tape hiss type sound, pops and clicks are almost non-existent.

One major issue: Sanctuary is missing!!!!

As far as sound quality is concerned, it's cut hotter than my CDN lp and it sounds better, no contest, wish I had a UK cut to compare with but as of today this will be my go to version of Iron Maiden.

Overall rating: worth getting if your original copy is beat up, this one sounds pretty good, nice balance and it has some bottom end 3.5/5

Sanctuary wasn't on the original UK version.

Killers: I'll keep this review real short, the cover and presentation is flawless however the sound quality is poor, I have no idea what source they used to press this LP but it sounds muddy and poorly defined, not good at all. My CDN LP beats this one to a pulp. The actual pic disk is very flat and well centered, I don't have the same issue as the previous reviewer in this regards.

    Also: Twilight Zone is missing!!!!

Rating: avoid if you're going to play 0/5. Save your $$ and hunt down a near mint UK/US/JPN/CDN/GER or Martian version instead, it will sound better than this guaranteed.

ok - I assume that Twilight Zone wasn't on the UK original of Killers either?

    Correct

Twilight Zone was on a single with Wrathchild
Sanctuary was on a single with Drifter and I've Got The Fire

Too bad about Killers - as crabby as I am about these, it does look cool (I've always loved the Purgatory image). If it sounded good, I'd consider it, but based on these two reports, no way in hell.

I would also consider Somewhere in Time - mine is a beat up Half-Price Books copy, 5 bucks, original non-club press. But I could spend around the same amount and look for a better original press.

I currently have good original pressing that I am satisfied with.
Then maybe, somewhere in time if I feel like I would like to get any of these pic-discs then I might get them if feel like it or not. They are sure "limited edition" but Im planning to get some other vinyl soon like The Beatles boxset (thats for sure pressed on black) etc...

What's funny about the original UK press is that there's no mastering info...

It's not included on this release for the reason as it wasn't on the original also.

That's the thing, they do look cool... Like a lot of Iron Maiden stuff. I'd play my original LPs before I played these though, as I wouldn't be expecting great sound from a picture disc anyway. So maybe looking up an original SiT would be a better option if you're not 'in to' these releases, but from a collecting point of view, these are must haves for me! :)
