But then they are only pushing out 2 Bond films a decade now. It’s not exactly like the Marvel universe.

I came around with Sean when I started going backwards after seeing the Moore films, and I think the best of those beat the best of the Moore films. Sean does play the role perfectly imo, but also some of those stories were really solid. Diamonds Are Forever is by far my favorite. Used to go to Circus Circus a lot and it’s awesome to see those scenes, along with the rest of the old Vegas. But it was a great story too. Of course the Moore years had more spotty success with the actual plots, but I think I like some of them more than others here do. I thought Octopussy was a really great film. Good villian, great sets and I loved the theme song All Time High, but then again I’m a Rita Coolidge fan and I would think younger fans would despise it!

I never hear of anyone really discussing Tomorrow Never Dies, which would have to be just about my favorite. I am a big Jonathan Price fan, so that certainly factors in. I thought he was just terrific in that role. Is it not generally liked? My current favorite, still, is the newer Casino Royal. I stopped being a Bond fan of anything newer...they really lost me with the next one and then I lost interest entirely. I hate fast jump cut films and/or films that trade plot and story for effects. I think that’s been the biggest single detriment to films in the past 20 years: irresponsibly used or implemented CGI as an excuse for a film to exist at all.

Wow, first I've ever heard anyone say that. Goldeneye is one of the few in the franchise that is excellent enough to stand on its own. Fantastic chase sequences, memorable locales, captures the post-Soviet vibe marvelously, has one of the franchise's few emotionally compelling plots, Judi Dench's first appearance as M, fantastic title song, unique soundtrack, etc. The only downside is the incredibly lame use of the BMW Z3.

Die Another Day is pretty awful. Moonraker isn't far behind, both for being incredibly cheesy (Jaws has a girlfriend, really?) and the whole "Hey, Star Wars is popular, so let's just put James Bond in space!" thing.

I think Die Another Day was better than Tomorrow Never Dies (where Sheryl Crow sang through her nose and the villain is a media mogul?!?)

Moonraker has some cringe-worthy moments, but that's part of it's charm. People still talk about it.

It's the Timothy Dalton films that I can't get behind. They are the most dated, forgettable and play like made for TV films. Nobody talks about those Bond films!

I love "All Time High", too, as well as "Diamonds Are Forever". It's really cool to see vintage Las Vegas.

Definitely a contender. Kinda cool, yet kinda "trying too hard"

Rita Coolidge's new album Safe in the Arms of Time is quite good as well. Shirley Bassey, hard to go wrong with her, that's a great theme as well. Amazing how at her age she could totally kill "Goldfinger" at the Oscars

Wow rewatched it this weekend (I’m watching them in order with my son) for the first time since it was new and it was even worse than I remembered—-the terrible Madonna theme/cameo, not sure why Cleese’s “R” was now “Q” and, while she is quite attractive, Halle Berry managed to be an even worse actress than Denise Richards. The best thing I can say is although the plot was bloated and stupid, at least it kept moving.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, Spectre makes Die Another Day look good.
I've been able to watch DAD a second time, but that will never happen with the imbecilic Spectre.

Yes, whilst DAD is bad, it had something going on to hold your attention in places. Spectre was just....watch gazingly dull.

I think Brosnan wished he had shed another 8-10lbs before filming started.

For the record Moonraker was the first Bond movie I saw at the cinema. It held my attention as a 8 year old!

someone recently said, "whats with the negative trend on Hoffman? the "worst of" anything or I hate so and so type threads".. and lo and behold, we have another one.

Maybe we need it, maybe you cant tell whats good without your own personal defintion of what's not good, or bad.

    I dont know.

Anyway, I would have rather seen a "what is your favorite Bond movie" but perhaps that has already been done to death

    so carry on.

While I'm a fan of Daniel Craig's Bond, he's guilty of one of the most groan-inducing moments of the series. His seduction of the Italian widow was incredibly bad in Spectre. Her being a lousy actress (how exactly did she get that part, there's no shortage of extremely talented beauties on this planet!) didn't help. Bond's seductions should be an automatic slam dunk!

One of my all-time favorite Bond flicks?
    The Rock!;)

Actually, I learn a lot when I read these threads. Sometimes they even change my mind about something I like or didn't like. If you can filter out the "it sux" comments there are a lot of interesting thoughts and opinions.

Well, Ian Fleming was a British intelligence agent himself. That sort of implies something of a voyeuristic approach to life. His father was killed in action during WWI and he has been around seen and has been responsible for the planning and execution of British military operations.

    No real surprise here.

IMO Never Say Never Again is the worst. Only Connery not produced by Cubby Broccoli and it shows.

    Worst Bond movie?

For me, it's a toss up between A View To A Kill and Quantum of Solace.

More often than not I give the edge to Quantum of Solace because it's that unique Bond movie that isn't even trying to entertain its audience. It's James Bond, - traditional cinema comfort food - deconstructed by a hipster chef into a skimpy portion of poorly edited brooding and mean-spirited violence. And for what point? To give Bolivia back its water? Makes a man miss the days when Bond villains thought BIG - overseeing a master race from space or starting wars between the superpowers, all from cleverly designed hideouts that spared no expense on the mid-century modern furnishings or well stocked wine cellar. Who runs their operation out of a hotel in the desert, let alone one that goes up like a Ford Pinto?

Quantum of Solace is James Bond under austerity measures - even less willing to offer up the familiar trappings of the franchise than its illustrious predecessor, Casino Royale. There's no delivering of the classic line, barely any romance, and hardly a laugh throughout the film. There are occasions when the movie goes out of its way to remind us we're watching a Bond movie - Agent Fields covered in oil, for example - but they feel false, considering how intent Quantum of Solace is to avoid even the most welcome cliches.

...and come on, this barely-a-James Bond movie is trying too hard to be a Jason Bourne movie. To call Quantum of Solace "influenced" by the Bourne films is being kind. This is imitation - pure and simple. The graceful, exciting reintroduction of James Bond in Casino Royale isn't just fumbled, it's blown. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

I'd rather watch Die Another Day, than this seizure-inducing mess. For all its outlandishness, Die Another Day still wants me to get some fun out of life.

I don't remember Die Another Day being one of the best Bond films but I believe there are worse. See Moonraker or A View To A Kill for that. I don't count Never Say Never Again as an official Bond film.
