Pardon my question, Joe if you are reading this.
I had read somewhere that Kevin Gray was doing the mastering for Friday Music, but didn't always take credit for his work.
I have two Friday Music LPs that sound excellent (Jeff Beck "Truth" & " Jefferson Airplane "baxters" hence my avatar). So if he is doing the mastering then I will say these two titles are a great job.
    Can anyone elaborate on this?
I know FM gets a lot of flack for pricing and I have heard some titles were no good, but my experience with these two albums is good (well, to be fair the artwork is a bit shoddy).

Not much info about him in that search Mike.
No one seems to know much about this man of mystery.

That man of mystery has 250 technical credits on Discogs, almost all masterings on the Friday Music label.

His background is marketing. I have FM's release of Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop cut by Kevin Gray. It is horrible. The man is deaf. I compared it to my 1989 Epic which I bought new. I won't blame Gray on this one as he didn't handle the mastering. One thing that is nice is the packaging. The FM release is a gatefold cover rather than the original single panel release. I bought the Sundazed mono Truth after hating the mastering from Guitar Shop. KG took credit on the Sundazed release.

Owning Friday Music record label is a dream come true for Joe Reagoso

I wasn't trying to knock anyone. In fact I give the guy kudos. I was just trying to understand his role in the process.
Maybe he should come here and let us know.
As I said I am happy with the two titles I have. I might even dive deeper into the label.

This one was deserved too. Heard this LP when new, in a record store. My Atlantic Oldies Series 45 RPM singles were superior to the point of night and day better.

All I can say is that the Friday Music vinyl version of Mahavishnu Orchestra's 'Birds of Fire', with Joe's name on it, is the best version of the album I've heard, vinyl or CD. Whoever did it, they did well...

Ouch indeed! I was thinking of checking out James Taylor Never Die Young, but now not so much.

I’ve only bought a couple of Friday lp’s (Yes Album 45 rpm and Seventh Sojourn) and they are stellar. But heaven knows I’ve been warned enough here to avoid titles I might otherwise have grabbed. Provenance does seem to be a big issue.

I'm confused. If the notes on discogs say "mastered by Joe Reagoso", and the same notes also state that the deadwax says Kevin Gray, did they both master it, or...?

I don’t really agree with this. It’s the ones that think they know better how to do things that seem to drive them away.

  23. He seems to only get producer credits on the Boz Scaggs S/T and no KG and/or JR scribe in the deadwax according to Discogs. I absolutely LOVE LOVE this album and have a number of copies so I'm wondering how the Friday Music sounds. Anyone? Is this 1/2 speed mastering from a digital file?
