The thread on the music forum got me to wondering about hdcd so I thought I'd ask the question.

Hee hee! I resisted buying the 5900 because of the price tag. Looks like this could be a good alternative. Wonder if it also comes in black.

There will also be a Denon 2910 for about $699. Not sure what you lose at that price point but it may have HDCD.

Hopefully Denon can get the HDMI video portion to work properly.
It's been tough to find a DVD player that does DVI/HDMI right.

Even the esteemed Denon 5900 had its problems.

I'm pretty sure you lose IEEE1394 and the audio DACs go down a notch. At the price point, it will be a screamer for sure. The 3910 seems to have about every imaginable feature you'd want. I suppose the only thing left at this point is a custom-resolution feature. Of course, if you're using a CRT-based set, that feature would be worthless.

I'm with you on this one. I also have the Denon 3300 and can't wait to get
a Denon universal player. The 3910 may be the answer finally.

The Denon 3910 looks to be the one to go with. Can't wait for some reviews. Hopefully the audio and video quality stands up. Guess the 5900 was quite good. Also I hope they get the forum approval for the Sacd output on the Denon link soon.

Dan Cooper - Yes the 3910 willl be available in black!

The much more expensive (MSRP $3,495) Lexicon RT-10 plays "all of the major optical disc formats available today" but not HDCD. Go figure.

Anthony H. Cordsman reviewed the Lexicon for "The Audiophile Voice" and was very impressed by the reproduction of CD, SACD and DVD-Audio. A contender.

Don't foget the "great" $300.00 APEX universal player. I had one (actually I went through 4) and it actually sounded very decent for the price, except for the fact that it produced randum pops and ticks (likely to simulate the sound of vinyl) and had lots of other problems. APEX pulled it off the market and never came through with a working replacement (likely because Sony pulled the circuit board it was supplying).

    Thats the HDMI OUT connector.

Similar to the DVI OUT right below it. The HDMI is the latest digital out connector as it (I believe) carries both video and audio out while the DVI just does video.

All players will have HDMI OUT very soon (any good new HDTV should have it also).

I had wondered where APEX has been hiding. I knew they produced a universal player awhile ago but it seemed to disappear.
