A real favorite of mine is a smart, beautifully crafted album of indie/pop from 1997 by a now long defunct Chicago based band called July. Their only release is entitled Surface For Air. Vocalist Stacy Pushkar (now Stacy Buehler) has a similar sound and style of Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries).

Dry and Dusty is an old-time fiddle tune that I learned from the Morrison Twin Brothers String Band 1930 Victor recording.
Brittany Haas turned it into something deeper and more beautiful.

Here is the Morrison Brothers recording

    Agree and incredible talent

I haven’t seen him in years last time I did he played me some rough stuff that I think was just prior to the record he made with that guy Nigel? that produced OK computer for Radiohead

I was so enamored of the two records he did for Elektra that I think I was disappointed And may have said as much

I seem to remember there was one song and I think he was pining after the loss of his girlfriend Heather Graham?

    Or somebody like that

Said it before I’ll say it again he should’ve been huge

The band I always wanted to get a bigger following was the Architects from Kansas City. Great rock band, super down to earth guys. All their albums are worth a listen to, I just grabbed one off youtube.

Lynn Linton was an Arizona-based singer songwriter with an extraordinary voice and incredible stage presence. I had the pleasure of meeting her several times at music and arts conferences and she was a real sweetheart. Sadly she passed away from cancer several years ago.

loved this UK band from the early 70's. the wonderfully gifted gus dudgeon produced at least two? of their LP's and Elektra picked them up for US release.

i wore both LP's out but had lots of them.

The Killer Whales from South Carolina, saw them live many times in Atlanta in the 1980s

They released an EP and then the Emotional Geography LP. Nothing has been released on CD as far as I know.

This is my favorite song from the LP.

I really like the song Ariel by Dean Friedman.

Sure, he is a one hit wonder, but there is nothing wrong with singing a song about a girl eating onion rings. I actually found his first 2 albums at a bookstore I frequent.

LA's very own The Hangmen and their one Capitol funded video clip. must've cost at least 2 grand.

their unheard and unreleased geffen/dgc record was even better and would have been huge. but for GNR.

i am NOT to blame for their lack of success. i tried.

Del Amitri. Yes, certainly known in Scotland and the UK ... but in the US, no. One hit here ("Roll To Me"), which is about as representative of the band as, let's say, "Little Child" of The Beatles.

Unbelievably good song writing and memorable tunes.

Here's an obscure one. The band Woolytooth. This was a band from Arizona (I believe). I saw them in 1993 at a local record shop when they released their only album Riverrise. Sleeping Planet was always my favorite song of theirs. I did manage to hold onto my original CD but online info and videos are sparse to none.
