Excellent band. Saw them open for Living Colour a couple times.

It's a one-off but Heavy D guested on BB King's Keep It Coming from Deuces Wild.

    Not a bad lineup here:
    Steve Jordan – drums
    Pino Palladino – bass guitar
    Lenny Castro – percussion
    Leon Pendarvis - organ
    John Cleary - piano
    Hugh McCracken – guitar

    He said good rap.

    How about Guru’s Jazzmatazz projects?

If it’s good enough for Herbie, it’s good enough for me.

Of course I approve of this suggestion. :righton:

If the original poster prefers the raps to be a bit more mellow then also their hit Deeper Shade Of Soul can be recommended.

As Rudeboy rapped in No Kid
DJ, guitar, bass, a drummer's foot
Step up son, you never get these roots

Yes, a DJ can also be an instrumentalist. :)

I think the original poster is asking if there is such a thing as Rap musicians.

There might be something by The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy or The Beatnigs, both featuring Michael Franti. Some of his solo stuff may fit the bill too, but he might have moved away from HipHop. The guitarist of TDHoH, Charlie Hunter, moved on to Jazz after this group split.

Great song and video. I almost posted that instead of Demagogue.

I'm not a hip hop fan, but Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly is a masterpiece. The vinyl version sounds great too.

A little off the beaten track, but ave you ever seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party? It's a documentary he made and it features a few different rappers with live bands. Fun movie, too.

The OPs description I'm blanking hard - no electronic drums, okay, but they can't be looped?

I'm sure they exist but I can't think of anything, not a single one. I guess a live album with musicians playing and no backing tracks is what you're looking for

But if Outkast - BOB counts, THIS
