"El Mundo Esta Loco Loco Loco Loco " Ha! Even if you didn't know a single word of Spanish , you'd still know what this movie title was !
One of my favorite movies of all time (certainly my fav comedy) . I saw it at the Cinerama theater in Times Square as a 9 year old in 1963. I still have the great program that they sold at the theater. Also have the excellent Criterion Bluray release. Time to pop in in for yet another viewing.
I have two alternate endings... 1) Spencer Tracy gets the money and takes off for Mexico. 2) Jonathan Winters gets the money , pays taxes on it , goes back to the garage shop he demolished and goes into business with the two garage guys.
That's pretty interesting. Steel Pole Bath Tub has an album that uses quite a few samples from the movie as well...mainly lines from Dick Shawn and Peter Falk.
I found a mint in shrink wrap soundtrack about ten years ago and had it scanned and then touched up. So same picture you posted but had the Title in the black globe on the right and In CINERAMA at the top. Then blew it up to like 4 feet long. Great poster. If I knew how to post pictures i would post it.
Man oh man, talk about an absolute classic. Can you imagine the cost and logistics of assembling a cast like that today? They used to play this on New Year's Eve in the late 70s, I think, so I always looked forward to that. Started the tradition a few years back with the kids (although it's fallen behind in recent years) and they quote it now (especially "Did you see the way it just sailed right out there?", complete with hand swiping motion).
About 20 years ago, I was working and my co-worker asked me if I had ever seen the movie. I stopped working, looked up at the sky and shouted, “Hey! Heeey!!! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!” He immediately burst into laughter and said, “That’s my dad’s favorite scene in the movie!” I can’t wait for my kids to be old enough to watch this with me the way me and my co-worker’s dad did with us.
That' s the very first big laugh moment in the movie for me. Milton says it three or four times and always with the hand swiping. Absolutely funny.
If people tell me they don't like "IAMMMMW" I tell them to hit the road or I'll beat their brains in. Who gave the funniest performance? Survey says ... not surprisingly ... Mr. Winters. Who Gives The Funniest Performance in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"?
The gas station scene gets the most attention, but I think the Silvers/Knotts scene is the funniest scene in the film.
I would have thought from your initial paraphrasing that you would have picked Dick Shawn. Everyone is funny in this flick...especially the old bag.
