My 62 year old aunt took me to see this for my birthday when it came out because I was a Jonathan Winters fan. My dad used to wake me up when he was on the Jack Parr Show. My aunt had no appreciation for it at all but was a good sport in taking me.
I just rewatched inherit the wind (1960) Stanley Kramer from 1958 to 1967 directed some incredible movies. Lots of Spencer Tracy in his films.
The Criterion discs, besides the great image quality, the sound was rebalanced and the movie sounds great with the roller coaster score. I love the score, thank you Ernest Gold.

D'oh! Seen this movie a hundred times. You'd think I'd know it was Milton Berle's wife who first spotted the big double ya.
I remember renting that from Tower Records. It was the first time I saw it letterboxed since its initial run in theatres. It used to look terrible as a pan and scan on TTV.
That VHS version pictured was the first version of the movie I ever bought. It was a used copy, a former rental, from Victory Video (a self-contained video store inside of a Great American supermarket).
What is the difference between the LaserDisc edition and the Criterion Dvd/Bluray? I have the Criterion Blu Ray and is fantastic!
Jim Backus' "Delicious" is one of my all time favorite songs. "I Need a Vacation" and "Caveman" are pretty damn good as well.
