    Please join us on the current McCartney song-by-song thread. We need a dissenting voice because there's so much gushing about Paul from us raging fan boys it's become embarrassing.

    I tried to do this with "songs I at one time genuinely loved" but I've lived long enough and been thru too many cycles of "I don't care anymore" and then started to care again, so best I can do is "highly exposed songs I didn't start off hating and on some level don't even now hate but still enuff z'enuff and I kinda don't understand why anyone ever loved them enough to be so culturally huge"

    Some might be: "Sledgehammer" by Gabriel; "Higher Love" by Winwood; "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Leppard; "Bad Co" by Bad Co; "Baby Love" by Supremes; "Soul Man" by Sam and Dave; "Tobacco Road" by anyone at all; "Knock on Wood" by anyone at all;

    "Lying Eyes" makes me want to take a fork, stick it in my ear and slam it into my brain. Maybe if I twirl the fork enough, the pain will stop.

    I have none that apply...I still love all the songs I listen to no matter how many times I have played them or heard them being played...why am I posting this? because I wonder if anyone else feels the same...

    The secret is not to listen to the radio. Never have other people decide what you listen to.
    My favorite band is Pink Floyd but I cringe when I hear ….we don’t need no education, or the song Money. That’s all that gets played on the radio and seem to be the most popular.

    But it reminds me of my time in the South African army. I was stationed in Namibia for three month in the middle of the desert. This was back in 1990. We had very, very little to do there in the desert.
    In my unit only one guy had a cassette player and two music tapes. Which we heard over, and over for three months.

    One of them was Modern Talking….I mean how often do you have to hear Brother Louie.

    I used to work in a stereo fixit shop. One day a guy brought in a cassette and copy of "Imagine". He worked doing some kind of inspirational conferences or trainings, and part of what he was doing involved repeating little parts of the song "imagine" over and over again. He wanted us to record parts of "Imagine" about 30 times in a row on the cassette, and the task fell to me. Including screw ups and just trying to figure out exactly how he wanted it, I probably listened to that song 40 times that day.

    Surprisingly, I didn't really get sick of it, and still think it's a pretty good song.

    I have another one, "Old Time Rock n Roll". I had to play this in a top forty band and I just HATED it. Now whenever I hear it, which is way too often, it reminds me of how much I hated playing it. Never been a Seger fan with the exception of "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man"

    First one that came to mind.

    Literally a quarter century of purposely avoiding this song has not made it any less overplayed, in my mind. A shame really.
