Just got my new SHM of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Natty Dread from CD Japan and it sounds phenomenal. Packaging is nice too.
It only took a year, but I broke down and bought all the Elton John mini LP remasters, except for Empty Sky and Greatest Hits Vol. 1. I already own Blue Moves, so I know these have great sound, will be fun diving into these albums again. Wish I could get that yellow brick road box that came with the discs last year.
Independent Japanese label P-Vine Records, which uses licensing of US and UK releases to reissue Mini LP in Japan, will release two albums by Belgian composer, arranger and orchestra leader Nico Gomez on SHM. It looks like SHM reissue - both albums were remastered and released in Mini LP on a regular CD in 2012 at the same price as SHM now ($22.29). Aug. 19, 2020 (SHM-CD) Nico Gomez Ritual Nico Gomez Bossa Nova “Nico Gomez (Joseph van het Groenewoud): Belgian orchestraleader with Dutch roots (born in 1925 in Amsterdam, came to Belgium in 1947). Active during the 50's, 60's and 70's with latin flavoured bigbandjazz. Died December 15th 1992. Father of Belgian rocker Raymond van het Groenewoud.” “Born of a Dutch father and a South American mother, he spent his entire youth in Curaçao in the Antilles. Later, with his family, he moved to Cuba and stayed in most of the other islands of the Caribbean Sea. Passionate musician and already a skilled guitarist, he soon became familiar with the typical rhythms of those regions, thus accumulating an uncommon experience in South American music. Rich in these notions, he arrived in Europe and settled in Holland and Belgium, where his musical career took place. As a guitarist and as a singer he was part of numerous Dutch-Belgian orchestras in his first years of activity; later on, he formed a typical orchestra of nine elements which soon became one of the most appreciated by the public of those countries. In the musical environment he is also highly appreciated as a composer and arranger, he has already composed numerous pieces for world-famous artists and orchestras in 50’s and 60’s.” 2012 Mini LPs were released in P-Vine Groove-Diggers series (OOP) (translation) Ritual [SHM-CD] [Limited Release] / Nico Gomez “A 1971 work that heats up the floors of the world with a frenzied groove that folds with percussive beats! My Elton John SHM-CDs arrived, along with my two Harrison MQA CDs and some plastic sleeves from CD Japan! Ordered all this last Friday, so not even a week. These Elton John CDs look gorgeous, going to start opening them up and have a look, then a listen. Feel like I should have on white gloves for these! Really going to be fun diving back into Elton's discography, 10 studio albums and a greatest hits album (Vol 2). Glad I finally picked these up, I'm sure one of these days they will be out of print.
Could you post your thoughts on the Elton SHMs on this thread. Elton John new 2018 remasters shm. Would be great to hear what you think.

Rick Wakeman's early solo works in the 70's, Six Wives of Henry VIII (1973), Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1974), King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (1975) are the most successful albums, and can be said to be masterpieces that spread his name worldwide. This work is a re-recording of one of them, and due to the development of technology, the overall quality as a production has dramatically improved. The masterpiece is a modern-day work. It also incorporates a new approach that is not available on the original, so even fans of the past who listened to the original can enjoy it with a fresh feeling. With commentary and lyrics. Yes, his speed is amazing but what distinguishes him is his limitless talent, he is without equal. He has mastered so many genres of music and has a huge catalog of recordings. His solo output is staggering from New Age, classical, rock, soundtracks, huge production pieces with chorus, vocalists and orchestra; he does it all. This video still takes my breath away…” (comment) YouTube

All of their ten albums are represented. A nice touch is the inclusion of 5 single edits and 2 previously unreleased tracks plus 1 from the `Americathon` soundtrack, also 1 from the Dennis Wilson album `Pacific Ocean Blue` - in other words, 9 tracks not from regular albums which makes it even more interesting for any fan of their music. `California Saga` is my favorite song here, `Holland` is my favorite of the albums represented here. Brian placed toys in the large sandbox that surrounded his piano. He sat barefooted, curling his toes up in the sand, while he wrote songs on the piano. He did this for inspiration. It reminded him of being a joyful young kid again, with none of the adult pressures to perform and produce music for money. He said, he felt a whole lot of love in that room. The writing duo of Wilson and Parks needed some verses to finish their untitled song. Dennis Wilson came to a writing session and told Brian an emotionally charged story, of how the Beach Boys touring band had recently been very humiliated and embarrassed, when a British audience pointed, laughed and made fun of their striped, uniform shirts. The story inspired Parks to write the lines, "Surf's up, aboard a tidal wave/Come about hard and join the young and often spring you gave/I heard the word, wonderful thing, a children's song." Japanese UHQCD treatment of the 30th and 25th anniversary reissue of the two Brian Eno collaborative albums with the price as a regular Mini LP - $23.56. Aug. 26, 2020 (UHQCD) Brian Eno & John Cale Wrong Way Up Brian Eno Jah Wobble Spinner “Cardboard sleeve reissue from Eno / Cale features UHQCD format. Comes with lyrics and a description. Bonus track.“ "30th anniversary reissue of the historic coming together of two icons of leftfield music. Having both started their careers as creative forces in seminal bands (Eno's unique synthesizer treatments in Roxy Music and Cale's viola and bass contributions to the Velvet Underground), they've appeared as guest musicians on each other's records as far back as 1974, the year in which they also made a historic live album with Nico and Kevin Ayers at the Rainbow Theater in London. They remained friends, and the year prior to Wrong Way Up, Eno produced Cale's Words For The Dying album. This paved the way for the pair to write and record an album together, notably the first time Eno had delivered a collection of song-based recordings since Before And After Science in 1977. The resulting album is a triumph for both artists, containing the singles 'Spinning Away' and 'Been There Done That'." Starting life as the soundtrack to Derek Jarman's Glitterbug, Eno passed stereo mixes of the film cues to Wobble who embellished and built upon them to construct the Spinner tracks. The resulting fusion combines icy ambience with a kind of psycho geographical funk.” (translation) Spinner [Expanded Edition] [UHQCD] / Eno / Wobble “Brian Eno and Jar Wobble, a masterpiece of abyss ambient and minimal heavy bass! The independent Japanese label Traffic, specializing on Electronica, Experimental and Alternative Rock has been around since mid 80’s. Now they have chosen the UHQCD pressing for their first mini LP market launch. 5 albums of the Krautrock German band Can are available only as a Disk Union promo box set. Thus, cdjapan doesn’t offer it at all. The only way to buy it is from DU dealers on eBay. One of them claimed Japanese mastering: July 17, 2020 Can Japan 5 Mini LP UHQCD Promo Box Set (available only as a box set) Monster Movie (1969) Ege Bamyasi (1972) Landed (1975) Saw Delight (1977) Delay 1968 (1981) “Formed in Cologne, Germany in 1968 - Disbanded in 1979 - Reunited on several occasions (1986, 1991 & 1999) CAN is one of a few internationally known "Krautrock" groups; they are famous for their repetitive and hallucinatory sound. CAN was founded in 1968 by Jaki LIEBEZEIT, Irmin SCHMIDT and Holger CZUKAY, and in their early days they also included American singer Malcolm MOONEY or Japanese vocalist Damo SUZUKI. They transformed progressive-rock into a science. By bridging classical music, jazz music and rock music of their times, CAN accomplished the first organic study on rhythm and texture. Their hypnotic and glacial instrumental jams straddled the line between free-jazz, acid-rock and chamber music. CAN's music can be difficult to appreciate, yet their albums offer some of the best experimental rock ever recorded. Then there are always the myths, the legends and the fascination. Here's a synopsis of most of their albums. I can recommend "Delay" through to Soon over Babaluma. "Delay" was the first album recorded although it was not released until 1981. Most of their albums are great, particularly "Monster Movie", "Soundtracks", "Tago Mago", "Future Days", and "Ege Bamyasi". After "Soon over Babaluma" I'd say forget it as CAN lose their fresh approach for which they were reknown. 1997 becomes the year where other musicians show the timeless aspect of CAN's music in the new remix album "Sacrilege". And this is the Sound of CAN in the nineties. "Limited" and "Unlimited Edition" are a collection from 1968 to 1974. In the autumn of 1978, a double CD retrospective "Cannibalism 1" was issued on United Artists, and, for many, still stands today as the definitive CAN collection. It drew from the band's first six albums, but a tremendous sampling of songs from their essential early albums. "Cannibalism 1" is the best CD to buy to first experience the incredible music of CAN. CAN's legacy still resounds clearly across the landscape of contemporary music. As Julian Cope concludes, "CAN will be remembered as one of the great 20th century bands. I've listened to their music for over 23 years, and I still freak out at their staying power... Every one of CAN's members is a hero, and a true star." I am patiently waiting(hoping) for the recent Kate Bush Remasters to get the Japan Mini LP Sleeve Treatment(and hopefully an Outer Box would be available to hold all of them), as I held off buying the Original Remastered 2 Box Sets, due to the lesser quality sleeves for each Album. I already own 'This Woman's Work' Box Set and a few different Early CD Versions of her Albums, so was not urgent to buy the Guthrie Remasters, but I do not keep up with this Thread often, so if the Kate Bush Remasters do get the Mini LP Sleeves issued, maybe someone who sees this post can send a PM to let me know. I did buy the Individual Remasters CD Set of the Bonus Songs though, just in case there is never a a Japan Mini LP Sleeve Release. Also, not interested in MQA-UHQCD format, so hoping for just either SHM CD, Platinum SHM CD or BluSpec CD of her Remasters get done by Japan. Thanks
I admire your patience. Personally I just bought the Guthrie remasters (which sound excellent to my ears) & didn't worry about what might be released by the Japanese in the future. I suggest you register with CD Japan (this is free) & then specify in the "email preference" section of their website that you'd like to be informed of new Kate Bush releases. SH forum members might forget to inform you but CD Japan's automated system certainly won't.
I'm in the same position as you on these 2 box sets - bought nothing and I'm waiting for their Japanese version. In short, Kate was an EMI artist. When EMI merged with Uni in 2013, I panicked and sold my previous 2005 mini LPs to be ready for a new flat transfer in the SHM-SACD / Platinum SHM Mini LP. Thank God I left my favorite promo box: 5 Promo OBI came with the set: At the time, the new release was so real - Uni had just finished the Roxy Music and Brian Ferry Mini LP sets, so Kate Bush should be next, right? Not so fast... Exactly at that time Kate's 35-year contract expired, and with no EMI, she switched to... Warner. Rhino has made a new remaster for her. And I think that although Warner, Japan makes Mini LPs very rarely, they will release Kate’s Mini LP set as they have some comitment to her. Over the next 2-3 years, with European boxes mostly disappearing, the SHM Mini LP sets are more likely. Platinum and Blu-spec (Sony) CDs are out of the picture. So far, comparative tests show that MQA UHQCDs (just in their undecoded state) sound better than Platinum SHM-CDs with the same mastering - so why should we ignore them? I’d be thrilled to have a full set of Kate Bush in Mini LP MQA UHQCD, but I doubt Warner will do it. You will be first to know, but you have to attend this thread regularly – no excuses. This is as sacred as going to church (for some). See, you barely missed David Gilmour's upcoming release... We all have our favorites, which supposed to be with the best sound and in the best presentation possible – that’s what the Japanese are willing to do.
Patrick Moraz [ CDA ] The Story Of I [SHM-CD] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] | Release: August 25, 2020 /3143yen The Story Of I [SHM-CD] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Patrick Moraz CD Album The rest of the world 2019 remaster of this album was fairly heavily compressed but less painfully bright than the previous remaster. Any thoughts how this 2020 remaster will sound?
We will talk about this album later today along with 2 more Patric Moraz bands coming together in one box set:
