The best part was seeing Affleck. I’m glad he and Kevin have patched things up.

Sorry but Jason Mewes was OK in Clerks and good in Dogma but that character got stale real fast. And it's the only thing Jason Mewes knows how to do.

Kevin Smith sure dropped a few kilos after his heart incident.

I really didn't care for "Strikes Back", which was just 90 minutes of cameos and very few laughs. This looks like more of that same. But the concept of fighting off being rebooted does sound promising and something I can get behind. Fingers crossed.

IIRC, I was lukewarm toward "Strikes Back" when I first saw it in 2001 but I liked it a whole lot more on DVD.

I was much more positive toward Smith back then, though. Since 2001, he's only made one movie I liked: "Zack and Miri". The rest have varied from mediocre to atrocious.

Given that his last - "Yoga Hosers" - was a total embarrassment, I go into the new J&SB with extremely low expectations.

Which makes me sad. Smith used to be hilarious as a filmmaker and a speaker, but now he seems to have lost his gift.

Maybe "Reboot" will prove me wrong, but all those bad movies give me little hope...

The only film of his I've liked since Dogma is Clerks II. I haven't seen some.of his most recent films. Cop Out and Miri were horrible. I dont know why I stick around.

Mewes is pushing 50 and he’s famous for being himself. I guess it’s a nice gig if you can get it, but he’s totally dependent of people’s continued goodwill towards 20 year old movies.

Red State was OK, but your assessment is correct. The last one I really enjoyed was Chasing Amy.

"Red State" was interesting as an experiment and change of pace, but I don't think it was an actual good movie!

Finally saw this movie today now that it's out on video.... loved it! A LOT of "big dumb smile" moments. The 'Chasing Amy' scene is a definite highlight.

Bit random in spots for its own good (seriously - the Klan scene is way the hell out of nowhere), but definitely worth the watch if you love the series so far.

And yes... the lack of Jeff Anderson really does suck. But at least we'll get Clerks 3.

I thought it was awful. As I say in my summary, "even with a hackneyed attempt to make this a story of maturity, it remains a stale collection of dated smut jokes that goes beyond self-parody into a realm of profound sadness."

    Simon A Arrr!

I do not wish to denigrate Smith but I think what's kept him on the map is doing a bunch of blogs, directing a few episodes for the CW super hero TV shows and hosting a few things for IMDB. I think he's been pretty lucky to get this kinda work.

    Two words..... loyal base !
He shows up, in person, to quite a few screening (for a higher price, of course), and the next thing you know, the movie makes a profit!!

  25. Forgot this was out there, and indeed it doesn't look good. Just pile up the cursing and cameos and hope it adds up to something. IMHO Smith has never come close to topping Clerks.
