As for the original Century model: Finally listening to them after a six month storage at my brother's house, and have to say, am really digging them. Sound is definitely forward and vibrant coming out these speakers, nothing laid back at all. The music is "alive", not still like a piece of analytical furniture. Don't get the disparagement of them.
I think they are an easy target because many audiophile types pretty much disliked the original ones in the 70s so they can let that hatred go. I had one of this original pairs (bought new in 1975) and really loved them for almost ten years until they were stolen. I now have a refurbished original pair that sound awesome downstairs in my second system. Everyone is saying the new ones sound so much better. I'd love to eventually hear them.
just finished reading about these speakers. few post said you can get these speakers for around $3k new. where can i get that price? thanks.
Look up all the JBL Dealers around your area and try to get a 20% Discount. Its not hard but you have to put some effort into it. You'll get killed on shipping if you don't buy it locally.
I finally joined the club today. L100 Classics/Additional Blue grilles/AQ CV-8 speaker cable/Deer Creek stands arrive Friday. I originally bought the JBL 4429s in 2018, and these dropped shortly after. Being a Maxell cassette user in the 70s, I loved the ad in my old Circus magazines, it was destiny! We moved in September, and I wanted to try something smaller. I tried some excellent monitors; the issue was on about half of my collection...I could easily tell they were monitors and I could tell exactly where the speakers were located. The overall thrill of listening was essentially gone. I'm a few tracks into the L100 Classics; already bringing-back memories of the golden age of the 4429s. In about 90 days...we'll be there. Off-stands and ice cold, they're still really good. Classic 1 by , on Flickr
I was invited to a listening party at my local HiFi shop when they first came out. There were a bunch of there and we were all choosing all different genres and they were a fun listen. Didn't experience any fatigue.
Congratulations on the new speakers. I'm curious as to the difference between the JBL and Deer Creek stands. They're both around the same price point and design, right?
The Deer Creek stands run about $100 more when all is said and done. I had them with the 4429s, and they are quality pieces...plus they’re available NOW. I couldn’t find the JBL-branded stands actually in-stock anywhere at this time.
Here we go...Stands arrived...Time to enjoy the music again. The Classics have a a nice blend of a studio monitor clarity and appropriate impact when the music calls for it. Classic 2 by , on Flickr
"Great space! Is that the 3rd Ward out your window?" Yes. Unfortunate timing to lose Summerfest this year... Well, new hifi gear will help ease the loss. The "Rumours" SACD is quite the statement, thus far in the listening sessions.
I lived in the Riverwest neighborhood about 17 years ago, and worked as a Designer for a startup generator in the 3rd Ward in 2016. If I were still single, that's probably where I'd be right now.
