Tweeters outboard, sounds better in my room. And the HF-Knob at 12 o clock. It's perfect for me. And no Grilles. Amp is the Yamaha A-S1200. Couldn't be more happy with this system!
"So the L100's for you are much preferred over the 4429's?" (IMO) The 4429 is a better speaker than the L100 classic. The L100 Classic is a better speaker than the ATC SCM19 V2 for music, maybe not H/T. The "live feel" of the 4429 was remarkable. The L100's have a very respectable hi fi presentation. From my vantage point. Not as-blocked by the loveseat as it appears in the other pic. pic1 by , on Flickr
I had a few PM's asking what system I was using with my L82's, so thought I would post it here:- Amp: Marantz PM-KI Ruby CD: Denon DCD-SX11 Tuner: Arcam FMJ T32 Speakers: JBL L82 Classics I have downsized a lot over the years...
Wanna see the L100 with mirrored layout = left-right speaker, like the L82. That's a dealbreaker for me. Hope they change it soon. But what I also wish for is a 30 cm version of 4307. Too bad they discontinued the beautiful 4319, maybe a replacement is coming.
The dimensions of the L82 speakers have just lit up a light bulb in my head. I think it's time I upgraded my office speakers, I have the amp that can drive them. (Just thinking out loud)
I'm currently saving my pennies for the L82's. The limited reviews seem pretty positive! I plan on running them with a Schiit Freya +>vidar for a turntable set-up. I appreciate the real-world, real-use info & feedback on them David R
Also the price, I hate to admit it but I never gave these a second glance, I thought the price was per speaker like the L100s. Yeah I know
A good review of the JBL L82 Classic's"- JBL L82 Classic review: These retro speakers offer modern acoustics
Yes that was a good review. It answered a question I had about the bass sound in this quote, "The speakers did have just a bit of a midbass emphasis that give kick drums some extra oomph — a ‘flaw’ I do not mind." Hmm, but later he adds, "-these are speakers neutral enough I’d be happy to use them as studio monitors." I like the neutrality of the L100 speakers but I do understand the observations from people that want more bass, but for what I listen to (mostly acoustic jazz) they are perfect. The original L100 were called Studio Monitors remember, I just want to hear what's played by the musicians not what is added by my speakers.
Thank you for these informations, i'm going to listen the l82 classic next month (l100 classic not available) and see if i can get a good deal.
I would disagree with the midbass emphasis comment, I find them very balanced up and down the frequency range. Again all these things are relative to your room acoustics. My L82's put a smile on my face whenever I listen to them, something I have never had before with speakers.
I paid £1400 for my PAIR, list in the UK is £1999 there are deals to be had. Stands cost me £150. The stands are non optional, you need them for the L82's to sound there best, they sounded odd on my normal stands.
Just ordered a pair of blue grills for my L82's! Love the orange they came with but wanted to try the blue!
Would like to hear the 4349. 12" woof, dual 1.5" compression drivers within a JBL waveguide. Bet they sound quite nice.
The monitor versions (4311 series) were hung on a wall with the woofer on top. Most if not all L100 users use them as L100s were designed, woofer on the bottom. Stand or no stand, it makes a difference having the woofer closer to the floor. Back then, it was known as the California Sound. Advents, from the east coast, we’re designed with less bass presence, known as East Coast Sound
