Title says it all. Note, this poll applies to regular season play only. Your choices:

    Ken Jennings - 74 wins - $2,520,700

    James Holzhauer - 32 wins - $2,462,216

Note: if you say Brad Rutter in the comments, you obviously believe Maxwells Silver Hammer is the greatest Beatles song, Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here is the worst album ever recorded, and Steve Hoffman created the loudness wars.

I have to go with Holzhauer because he applied gambling strategies on top of trivia knowledge to maximize his winnings.

I think he would beat Jennings in a tournament.

I have to guess that the producers of Jeopardy are already trying to arrange a showdown between these two guys, plus a third former champion (or Watson?).

Personally, if Alex Trebek decides to call it quits in the near future (I pray that he does not), for Alex’s final week; I would personally like to see an entire week of Jennings vs. Holzhauer, head to head, with a ridiculous grand prize to the person who amasses the most cash in 5 games.

James by far! They had to bring in a ringer to stop him.

Although I believe James would beat Ken in a head to head match, I’ll have to give the nod to Ken. At least at this point in time.

74 wins in a row is DiMaggio impressive.

The GOAT (Greatest Of All-Time) is Sir Alex Trebek himself ...

I was thinking of “GOAT” like Charlie Brown is always the goat. Lol.

I vote James because he won more in a shorter time.

    ^^^

I can't believe that I have to admit this, as I have always felt that Pat Sajak is a bit of a boring game show host, but feel free to see the moment that Pat recently stole this award from Alex ...

Spin ahead to the 1:53 mark of the following clip ...

I think Brad Rutter should be added to the list of Jennings and Holzhauer. Overall, while Jennings is my sentimental favourite, I think Rutter is a slightly better player than Jennings. A match with the three of them would be exciting. And since Holzhauer's tactics are now obvious, it would be interesting to see how two of the best players would play against him.

However, I think the best Jeopardy player ever (although she holds no records) is Larissa Kelly.

+2 for the correct comparison of the All Time HR leader and the individual with the Most HR’s in a single season.

Turd Ferguson is a great character; however, “Sean Connery” is the greatest. (Clip maybe NSFW. Im not sure if your employer has an AN ALBUM COVER.)

    Suck it Trebek

Joking of course Alex. You are truly the GOAT. We all love you. Best wishes to you for a full recovery!

I'm going with Holzhauer because he won more money per episode.
Although 74 games in a row is very very impressive!

  21. Related question: When did "GOAT" become the acronym de jour??

Like I've literally seen GOAT on Reddit 10+ times (in different threads, including a bunch of thread-titles) in just the last 3-4, maybe 5 days -- along with this thread -- and I don't think I'd EVER seen that acronym before last week.

Quite awhile now. Several years in fact. I first saw it referring to Tom “Tom Terrific” Brady.

After all the years here and getting used to 'the goat' meaning Stevie, now I have to re-learn things. Sheesh! You young whipper snappers!

In sports parlance, I first recall it being the nickname given to Jerry Rice. I’m sure that was not the first time, nor will it be the last time it will be used. It seems now there is a GOAT for everything, and why should Jeopardy! be any different?

    Sorry @GodShifter , can’t give a like to a cheater.

Jeopardy! “randomly” put James Holzhauer in the #1 slot in the GOAT Tournament.

Edit: Very impressive first game by Ken Jennings. He out “Holzhaured” Holzhauer.

Also, of course a Shakespeare category would turn up. Alas, enough of this.
