There are a lot of forum members who feel it is their duty to let everyone know they dislike an artist’s output after a certain era. I don’t get it! Especially on a thread like this.
Even though there were some select good songs from the 80s albums on, Jethro Tull pretty much ended for me after Barrie Barlow left. I've got all the book sets and only need the Benefit book to complete collection.
Yes, SW's continued involvement was confirmed in this Sound & Vision interview with Jakko Jakszyk (who was originally supposed to remix the '80s albums pre-COVID):
Ka-ching! Sold. I've always liked A. All of it. I do hope that there is a filmed concert in the offing. I wonder if any of the songs on Broadsword And The Beast had a period of gestation with this version of Tull?
Hmm, this is an album I've never heard at all. Still, I've bought all these books and I see no reason to stop now.
Never heard of Tull's "A" album. But if it's coming out with a Steven Wilson multi-channel mix in a book form then I'm in! Have all the other book style releases and will buy any future ones. Just finished listening to the Thick As A Brick DVD .
That was my immediate guess as well, and would have posted it if pbuzby hadn't pbeaten me to it. The two DVDs is a big hint that Slipstream will be included - really, there's no reason not to include it; it was already part of the earlier expanded remaster campaign. The complete source concert should be fascinating too. Spoiler: Here's the full tracklist from November 12, 1980 Jethro Tull Setlist at Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles Black Sunday Crossfire Songs From the Wood Hunting Girl The Pine Marten's Jig Heavy Horses Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day Flute Solo Keyboard Solo Batteries Not Included Uniform Drum Solo Working John, Working Joe Protect and Survive Violin Solo Bungle in the Jungle Aqualung Locomotive Breath Black Sunday (reprise) Observations: I wonder if the concert tape includes the "Slipstream Intro" montage, heard at the beginning of the film and also available on the Promotion Manual promo sampler? As with the Stormwatch tour, they played most of the new album. This is nice, because frankly I'd rather hear Jobson and Craney playing A songs than playing earlier material and getting it "wrong." ...The exception being the very cool arrangement of "Skating Away" as seen on the video. Look at that, "Too Old to Rock and Roll..." finally excised from the set list! (Only for the band to mime to the record on the video...) A further escape from the largely set-in-stone set list that didn't evolve all that much during the Glascock years. Keyboard solo and violin solo? I picture Eddie sitting stone-faced, with arms crossed, at the pre-tour negotiating table. For someone who was emphatically a "guest" rather than a full member, he got his spotlight mileage...
I’m definitely in. My dad’s a huge Tully (as am I, it’s practically in my DNA thanks to him), snagged all the sets as they came out, and I’m no different in my feelings towards these very reasonably priced deluxe sets. I really enjoy kicking back the following Saturday after getting the new set and making an afternoon of it with him, soaking it all in, front to back. If only other artists would follow the same path... but man I’ve been nothing but impressed with every single one of these sets. That Steven Wilson’s got a really good set of ears on him.
Sadly the source concert was wiped. And what was kept are only the Slipstream parts WITH the digital effects applied
Is the thing that concerns people about the 2013 Steven Wilson release is that its a digipack instead of a book like the others? A re-release would be that version in book form?
Yes I want it in book format so that it fits to the others. Plus it's confirmed that a few surprises are added.
