Yeah, I've always been a bit ambivalent about A Passion Play too. There are some great moments in there, but it doesn't flow as well as Thick as a Brick, IMO. It's interesting to see them breaking out the individual tracks there--it might make it a bit easier to penetrate. I rather prefer the Château d'Hérouville Sessions anyway, so this might be a good way to reassess the whole thing.

The MFSL also had individual tracks.

Interesting to read this... presumably they were cut from the original release on purpose. I wonder how long it extends the track running time (probably not much).

So, the vinyl is available separately....or tied to everything else?

I have the remaster of this, but since this is Steve Wilson, I'm in.

I've been on a big Tull kick for the past 3 or 4 years. Never owned Passion Play, and made a point not to buy it anticipation of this release (but have been listening to it & the tracks from Nightcap on Rhapsody). Can't wait. :righton:

  9. Good question. I really like the overdubs and I am not sure if the music will be as interesting without them.

Hopefully the packaging will be like the Thick As A Brick Deluxe Edition.

werent the chateau recordings already released already? was thouroughly dissappointed that there wasnt a live set releaesed with TAAB. and the new HOMO ERATICUS box set is obscenely priced. and will we ever see martin barre perform with tull again? cant believe he wasnt involved in the TAABII project or tour

The MFSL CD is going to be hard to beat for sound quality. As long as Wilson continues to work his magic we will have no worries. I already have the vinyl, first US cd, MFSL and the remaster from the 2000s. With the inclusion of Chateau this new mix wil be a worthy addition. Man who am I kidding? A Passion Play is my favorite Tull recording and I will purchase any iteration that comes along.

On Nightcap, but in a different order and not all of them. And as people have mentioned the mix there was in a somewhat 90's style with newly recorded flute by Ian (presumably where the vocals would have been if he had recorded them in the 70's). I'm guessing Steven Wilson will want to present it more as it would have been in the 70's.

Nice to read, may be folks will start appreciating it instead of treating it like Tull's "Tormato" :)

My German copy: 1Y/2Y sounds incredible. It would beard to beat, but I'll give this a listen. My only complaint with Wilson is, IMO, he takes a bit more liberty with the original tracks than to my liking.

Side 2 after "Hare" is probably the best music Tull ever made.

Thats the ticket! I bet Ian and his record company view the Steve Hoffman Form members as their proverbial cash cow.
