This *should* be the 2016 (Steven Wilson) mastered remix. I hope they haven't reverted back to the 2011 Peter Mew-mastered remix when they had the Hi-Res 2016 mastering for sale previously.

Interesting. But they are only in 16bit/44kHz.

On Qobuz, they have the high rez Steven Wilson 11 track "mix and master" and the 25 track 40th anniversary edition at standard rez. These tracks say "Steven Wilson Stereo Remix" and have 2011 as release date. I'd bet these were mastered by Peter Mew.

Thinking it over (and replying to myself), I don't remember ever seeing the 25 track Aqualung 40th Anniversary Edition in "un-Mewed" form, only the 11 track album. Downloaded that from Pono a long time ago.

I agree it would make more sense to provide the most recent and comprehensive version, but the copyright date is 2011, and the track list only shows the remixes of "Life is a Long Song" and "Up the Pool." The 2016 do-over included remasters of the original mixes as well (to provide the complete EP in its original form).
Almost like they saw the prices these sets are fetching on the secondary market, and ripped the CDs. (I'm not saying they actually did that, of course.)

While I really love the remix I have loved the song since I first heard it in 1984/1985

Same here simce 1976. The odd guitar intro treatment always captivated me.

Not knowing what a pibroch was, I looked it up - which might help explain the guitar intro - the drone of bagpipes? Pibroch - Wikipedia

Yes, with those harmonies of the backward reverb on the guitar it gives me such a pipe-ish feeling...

one aspect that instantly impressed me was the clear and glistening quality of the acoustic guitars in Steve Wilson's remixes. They seem to cut through the mix and shine rather brightly and profoundly.

Ian provides some explanations about the song and guitar effects along the book part of the set.

Are the versions of One Brown Mouse on both sets the same?

No! The version on the TOTRR set was a master mix, but the multitrack was later discovered, so the song got a SW mix on SFTW
But the performance itself is the same.

Good excuse to play the 5.1 version on this (closest thing to autumnal in SoCal) Sunday late-afternoon.
