I really like the UK version of “Teacher”. I first heard that on the 20 Years of Tull box set.

Actually now that I listen, I'm hard pressed to hear any flute on "Up the pool"! (Agree, can definitely hear flute on Dr Bogenbroom.) On Up the pool, what sounds a bit like a flute maybe is actually violins.

I don´t think there´s a flute in Raising steam, the last track on Crest of a knave.

  5. Benefit is one of my favourite Jethro Tull Albums, there's no flute on the following songs and I love them all:
    To Cry You A Song
    Nothing To Say
For Michael Collins, Jeffrey & Me

  6. This is one case where I definitely prefer my Tull with the flute (the American version?). The UK version is fluteless, but they didn't replace it with anything... So during what one would expect to be a solo spot of some sorts, instead they just riff in the background and "nothing" happens...

All true. I could probably fill up a CD with my favorite unfluted Tull songs; the only tedious part would be having to listen too hard to all the candidates to double-check. (I love listening to music, but listening for something in particular can feel like homework.)

  9. If Ian is reading this he should give it a thought for the theme of the next Very Best of the Greatest Tull... type of compilation: "The Unfluted Jethro Tull". It actually works as a hit collection! Requires to change the one-legged flute-playing IA logo though... Just for once...

Does “Cat’s Squirrel” have flute? I never heard it when listening to the song a few minutes ago.

  15. No, it's just the trio of Abrahams-Bunker-Cornick on that piece.

Just rework it to show Ian snapping the flute in two over his knee.

I had forgotten about "Steel Monkey" - that's one of my favorite post-70s Tull tracks, particularly in the winnowed field of non-flute songs.

I believe The Whistler has a tin whistle as opposed to a flute

  22. No flute on "Son" either.

  23. IIRC it's Ian playing the fiddle...

I believe Martin Barre said Nothing To Say is his favorite Tull song.

But the version with the flute is better (though worse sound quality - unfortunately ...)
