Which if you read MITG´s liner notes, they probably did.

People need to rate these sets as what the band were capable of and not what they decided to produce for the album alone. The quality of the 4 outtakes are better than several of the album songs. I consider some of the album songs as Tull trying to be more commercial and radio friendly. This is a soundtrack after all. This is a lot like war child which is also a soundtrack. Both could have been a lot higher rated if the outtakes were on the album instead. Rather than rating the set from all songs included. I like to rate it using the songs I feel that are Tull songs and I ignore the ones I feel aren't Tull.

That is your opinion not a fact. I think this is the best official released live tull sound so far

I thought Paris 1975 sounded a bit rough, but from the way it sounds I'm sure it was due to the quality of the multitracks, rather than a mixing problem. I did enjoy it very much, though: musically and sonically. I'm very pleased Jakko is aboard, as it means the serie could possibly continue after Steven Wilson decides he had enough.

Agreed, it is my opinion. I have a fair number of soundboards and radio LP discs that sound
much better than the Paris 75 release. I did state that it is possible that the multi tracks were
    part of the problem.

For official live stuff that kills Paris 75 in sound quality look no further than the Madison Square
Garden and Bursting Out releases. (again, in my opinion)

EDIT: It's a shame that Ian has been so careless with his tape library.

It´s a shame Ian has allowed the Paris tape to lay forgotten in the vaults for so much time. Now a full reel is missing. It looks like he´s not too keen on archive live stuff. It really drives me mad that both Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin, who largely made their following thanks to the live performances, are so dismissive about releasing lie albums.

The loss of usable film from Paris 75 is inexcusable as well.......fortunately I can console
myself with the several hours of 1975 show that I filmed. My son did a great job of sync
using my tapes from the same shows.

Bursting out has the worst live sound on an official release I've heard so far...

Can you list some of those soundboards?

  12. I have never understood this opinion / hyperbole. I think bursting out sounds great for an 8 track live recording. I have heard much worse sounding official live releases, such as King Crimson Earthbound and much of The Who's The Kids Are Alright off the top of my head.

I have most of the JT albums through the '70s but never owned this one. I don't believe I've heard much of the complete album through the years, other than a couple of times at a friend's house in the 70's and once more recently on youtube. These recent JT album packages have been great so far, though, so it will be worth it for a family member to put this one in my xmas stocking.

Tootull do you have any clue why didn´t they include those other Living in the Past and TOTRR mimed videos from 76? Copyright?

    No. Never mentioned.

  17. Got my set yesterday. What an excellent production that stands tall next to all the other Tull boxes SW has been involved with. The 'book' is a wonderful read, but I was curious why there was no mention of Maddy Prior in the notes (beyond the credits on page 1) -seems a strange omission.

    Very great set!

(Though that mix of Old Brown Mouse makes that version almost unlistenable to me. Not SW fault, it is a 1976 rough mix! Glad it's included though, it is always interesting to hear early versions)

No time for me to listen to this until later in the week but my set arrived today. Just looking through it I am blown away. What an amazing package. The design/color schemes/including the old comic from the LP etc - makes this my favorite of the Tull boxes so far just from the "wow look at this" factor! A great example of why having the physical product still means something to me, this is a buzz you can't get from downloads and why I am still a physical media junkie.

All that being said I have a slight bummer to mention - the back of my book/box has some weird sticky and shiny crap all over it. Some kind of chemical/coating from the manufacturing process I guess. Anyone else have this on their copy?

I just gave CD 1 a spin tonight. Am I the only one who thinks the re-recorded TV Special version is better than the official release? It has that classic Morgan Studio (London) sound, and the whole musical presentation is more kinetic and propulsive to these ears. The remixed original tracks that follow the TV version were a bit of a letdown in comparison.

I'll move onto CD 2 tomorrow.

My initial thoughts as well. But it might also be because it's simply new.

  22. That's my initial thought. I am happy to have these alternate mixes (rather than a complete album remix) and actually think it improves the value of the release for me. The alternates are a little less polished, and a little more energetic. They both have their merits.

I definitely think the new versions sound better. I wasn't even aware they were different recordings when I first listened (on Spotify), and I wasn't familiar enough with the original to recognize them as new. But I've been listening to them and the flat transfer of the original and I still definitely prefer the new mix.

I'm not a TOTRR specialist, and not a big fan of it either, but I bought this new edition because I love the way these Tull albums are being re-released. Once again, the producers took the right decisions. A flat transfer, remixes, outtakes, the re-recorded version of the album, surround mixes, the TV special, liner notes, interviews, photographs. One of the best re-issue campaigns ever. Period.

    +1

I also think, the re-recording is better than the actual album.
