Well that's a very nice tidy little version of the song!
Maybe the sound is a little too raw and in yer face. I wish Kramer would step back a little sometimes.

I wonder if it was a flaw in the original recording rather than a mixing issue, vocal mics too low and amps too high. Otherwise, the vocal needed to pushed up a bit if you're going to leave the guitar that raw. The PHA one had the right balance.

In the purple box booklet, it said that the 1970 studio version of "Lover Man" was "newly discovered". What a great version it was.
My favourite is still the Berkely one that first appeared on "In The West".

Yeah, that's right, I wonder how it got lost, it's as close to a finished track as just about any of anything on CoL, RB or WH (Heck, it's better than some of the things on Loose Ends). But then they probably wouldn't have put it on In the West, so in the end we get both!

Didn't he do a version in July or August though? I don't know if it was complete, or had vocals or anything but the Ultimate Hendrix book does speak of such a recording.

I'd have to double check too, but he didn't really concentrate on it there. I go over the 1970 portion all the time when we have our First Rays discussion and don't really remember it being mentioned.

Okay so I looked it up and it was recorded on July 21st, 1970. It sounds like it's complete, but I have no idea if it's anything near releasable.

Here is the quote from the book:

"Hendrix led the band through a single, spirited workout of "Hear My Train A Comin'" before calling the evening to a close." (page 236)

Thanks! At this point, wouldn’t hurt to give it a listen. They’re not shy in the book to say when rakes weren’t good so saying it was spirited is positive. Surprised it hasn’t leaked anywhere that I know of.

There is also a article that goes along with the video.

Exclusive: Listen to one of Jimi Hendrix's last songs with the Experience

Finally got around to reading it. The most interesting bit.

I didn't think it was anything exciting perhaps I'm just jaded on Hear My Train.. perhaps just jaded in general when it comes to EH releases

  17.:yawn::yawn: Really, Kramer? You'll have to try a little harder to convince me next time. You're certainly not a very convincing actor. We're being fed the lowest barrel scrapings. Just cut the hyperbole and admit it for once. Please.

  18. Crazy that Eddie Kramer is 75 years old!

I'll take the 12-string version of "Hear Mr Train...," thank you very much.

I listened to the free download offered on amazon . It sounded like 100 other Hendrix songs released since his death

Ya, I wonder if they could scrape up a nice collection of acoustic Hendrix. I would certainly be interested in that.

Actually have listened to both twice already this year, but that was doing some comparisons. Normally once a year.
