I may be wrong on this but I'm thinking your brother saw the last show Hendrix ever did wearing the military jacket.
I've never figured out the chronology of the SF shows that week. I know that he played multiple shows at the Fillmore. And perhaps another venue, as well. I can't recall. My brother always asserted that Jimi, from the flatbed truck stage in the Panhandle that day, said something along the lines of: "I'd rather play here free for you than for Bill Graham any day."
The B&W is in the possession of David Kramer and the colour is held by Experience Hendrix, never the twain shall meet. I know a few folk who have seen the former but the majority of us will never get to enjoy that experience ………………… along with a few other juicy gems! The latter, well I gave up on EH sharing the none commercial bits and pieces a long time ago and have given up on them releasing anything of real interest this side of 2075 a long time ago. DRIP, DRIP DRIP, THAT'S YOUR LOT FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS ………………………………..
Makes me suspect they are negotiating a new deal with another record company. Gotta hold the valuable stuff in ransom.
Nah, long way off of that me thinks. But the sooner they bin Sony the better! Now, just what's that I see in the not so distant future ………………………. is, could it be, it possibly is at long last the ………………………
Who would EH go with, next? Jimi has already been on Warner/Reprise, MCA, Ryko, Capitol and currently on Sony. Who else is left?!
Well, his music was on MCA and later Universal from 1992 until 2010, when EH swithced to Sony. Going back could be interesting. It's all about the music, in my opinion
Under the stewardship of EH they have had deals with Universal / MCA and Sony Music. So still options plus they could return to Universal MCA or stick with Sony. The only positive to come out of the Sony deal was that Sony put as much into the physical item as they do for digital streaming, which is what I think would have been happening if they stuck with MCA. That said, I doubt the change on Sony was based on that point, customer? What about them?
The only friction I've heard of between him and The Who was at Monterey. But Townshend had nothing but admiration for Jimi, saying that watching him perform was an epiphany.
There is that interview with Pete where he expresses his regret that he didn't get the hugs from Jimi that Eric got.
Didn't Pete try to make amends with Jimi at the airport after Monterey and was put in his place most unceremoniously?
A Jimi scholar can throw some light either way but I heard Pete congratulated Jimi on his performance and said he wished he had a piece of the guitar he destroyed to which Jimi apparently replied; "Yeah I'll autograph it for you Honky!"
Since it is no longer prohibited to post JH photos here, I thought I'd share this little seen photo that was just brought to my attention. Jimi in full flight at the Col Ballroom in Davenport, Iowa, USA 11-August-1968. Great stuff if you ask me!
