O Mito. A man whose influence cannot be understated, and will forever be felt.

  3. There are few things in life more sublime than the voice and guitar of Joao Gilberto singing and playing the melodies and words of Antonio Carlos Jobim. As others have already said, a true musical giant has left us. We can only be thankful that he left us with so much beautiful, unique and timeless music to treasure.

Truly saddened by this one. RIP

RIP. Not many can say they invented a genre of music.

Chega de Suadade and his other early works, and of course the Getz/Gilberto with Jobim album, are as important as any albums you could name. And they still sound fantastic. Of course I enjoy his '70s recordings, as well, and I look forward to hearing more of his later works, now.

Amazing what he could do with minimal arrangement, and always sounding so casual and effortless. He shook up the world, but gently.

    Rest easy.

A shame. I absolutely adore his work with Stan Getz.

Being of Portuguese descent , I grew up listening to some of his music. I think I’ll spin some of the old vinyl I have in his honor.

    Descansa em paz,
    João Gilberto
