There's one last John Candy movie I'd like to see, Dr. Frankenstein Meets John Candy...... reanimation now! ;)

Not to pick on anyone but I refuse to believe somebody wouldn't pick PTA as one of their choices. It's like not selecting Citizen Kane as one of your four favorite Orson Welles directed films.

Meh - I like the movie but of the 4 I picked, it's the one I like the least!

I don't think that Mr. Candy was a PTA member and I'm quite certain he never lived in Harper Valley... ;)

This thread leads to the gigantic, inevitable conclusion, why isn't there a candy bar named after John Candy?

I put Summer Rental in my four also. It's not the strongest or funniest film by any stretch, but I put it in to honor the man - I think it's likely for me the best of his films where he alone is really front-and-center. I also include Planes..., Splash, and Vacation because I think they are maybe the strongest comedies he was involved with.

Maybe there's somethin' to these here astroillogical signs? ;) That is hilariously weird! He always looked like maybe he ate beaucoups of candy.

Do adore him enough to buy and eat John Candy Bars? ;) I'm working up the formulation presently, the recipe is nearly complete....white chocolate with a milk chocolate, nutty centre.

It's like you're reading my mind! Maple, along with nuts, are the primary ingredients the John Candy Bar Maple Leaf Cluster... ;)

I didn't truly realize how young until I got older.

Definitely an "unfinished life" as they say.

With Only the Lonely and his bit part in JFK, we got a taste of where his career might have been headed.

Years later when I saw actors like Robin Williams doing dramatic films such as One Hour Photo, it made me wonder how Candy would've approached these roles.

I used to love The Great Outdoors as well. I saw it in the theater. I watched it many years later and yeah...it's bad.

The talking racoons fall flat, Candy's teenage son is unlikable and his scenes with the girl kill the flow, and they made Akroyd's daughters too weird.

Only has a couple good scenes.

I love when he asks for an icecube for his shot of whiskey.

I have no memory of that movie. At first I thought you meant the Eddie Murphy standup film!

  24. Another example of villainy was a commercial parody where he slaps his wife around for feeding their dog food with cereal in it. He came off as genuinely menacing there.

Uncle Buck rules. One of the classic "quotable" '80s comedies.
