This is exciting! The sample on the second link there gives me the impression this should sound great- amazingly so having come from tape that old. Really looking forward to this release!

As long as the sound is good, I will be happy. I would surely hope it will be AAA though, but who knows since this from an amateur recording. They said the tapes were in great shape and it indeed sounded very good. No hesitation from me, its JC and my LP set is already pre-ordered.

The sample sounds good for an amateur recording. The Pitchfork article I read (I assume from a press release) stated that it was recorded by two mics on the stage, so not your usual "guy with a tape recorder hidden in his pants" sort of private recording. Still, based on the sample it sounds like I can safely forgo the vinyl release and enjoy this one on CD without missing too much audio subtlety.

I don't care if it was recorded on two tin cans and a string. This is a historically important recording and one that I am very much looking forward to hearing. I can't wait!

from the NPR article; "Brazil used the club system, two microphones and an Ampex reel-to-reel, and then preserved the tapes for nearly half a century, as if guarding a Holy Grail. They were found in his archive after his death in 2008."

it never ceases to amaze me the sheer history that has rolled through this sleepy little club just 7 blocks from where i live.

I was referring to people mistaking Seattle for Paris and vice versa, not the the audio releases.

Unless I'm mistaken, this was recorded during Coltrane's residency at the Penthouse that also yielded the Live in Seatle 2-disc set, featuring Pharaoh Sanders and Donald Garrett that Coltrane had recorded at his own expense (if I recall correctly). If so, it should prove an interesting rendition of the "Love Supreme" material.

The clip of "Psalm" is up already, and I was surprised to find that it's a lot less "out there" than the material on the old Seattle album. I'm definitely interested to hear how the rest of it shakes out.
