My dad and I saw Stripes on TV last night, and he hardly even knew who John Larroquette was.

Really? Wow! Thinking about it I don’t recall Night Court or the John Larroquette Show being rerun much these days.

Night Court is being shown on Laff, but The John Larroquette Show hasn’t aired in years.

That doesn’t sound like a major channel but I really don’t know. I got to imagine many of the sitcoms I loved through my life are quickly becoming blips in the span of time. I loved Night Court so much that I saw Harry Anderson twice when he came to my city with his act during the run of the show. He was great. I wish the show got better distribution on DVD. I believe I got the first two seasons. The rest were released on MOD which holds no interest to me.

Perhaps we will get more of Dan Fielding. Although it would surprise me if Fielding lasted in his shift longer than the other main characters.

‘Night Court’ Sequel In Works At NBC

Night Court is back in session. NBC is developing a follow-up to the classic legal comedy series, with co-star John Larroquette set to reprise his Emmy-winning role and produce. The Big Bang Theory alumna Melissa Rauch executive produces the reboot for Warner Bros TV.

Written/executive produced by Dan Rubin (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) based on the original series created by Reinhold Weege, the multi-camera Night Court centers on the unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, daughter of the late Harry Stone, who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (Larroquette).

The original Night Court, which aired on NBC for nine seasons from 1984-92 and earned three Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy nominations, followed the proceedings during the night shift of a Manhattan municipal court, led by a young, unorthodox judge, Harold “Harry” T. Stone. He was played by Harry Anderson, who died in 2018 at age 65. Abby is a newly created character who was not part of the original show.

This sitcom had a few musical connections:
    • None other than David Crosby appeared in 7 episodes as Chester, John's character's AA sponsor.
    • Boyz II Men appeared in an episode that saw their tour bus break down at John's station.
    • In another episode, Kinky Friedman appeared as himself in a jail cell.

I had a chance to observe him up close when I did an episode of LIBRARIANS. I used to do background work on that show and GRIMM, etc. I actually don't remember if he was directing it or was a guest star, but I got the vibe everyone liked him.
