I just saw a new version of Johnny Winter's album "Johnny Winter" on Columbia/Legacy, with three bonus tracks. Anyone bought this yet and compared it to the earlier DCC silver version?

Are you talking about the self titled Johnny Winter album? The only Johnny Winter album that Steve did on DCC cd was Johnny Winter And IMHO. I think I saw the self titled Johnny Winter cd remastered just lately.

I'm sorry. You're right. You're absolutely right. I just pulled my Johnny Winter CD off the shelf and it is indeed "Johnny Winter And" which Steve did for DCC on silver. I was thinking it was the "Johnny Winter" album. Dah. I guess I'll need to go back and buy the new "Johnny Winter" Columbia/Legacy release for sure, then.....

Legacy is releasing "Second Winter," with a bonus live disc from RAH in London. I just got a copy of it. The first Columbia album, "Johnny Winter," was supposed to get the same treatment, but has been held up for some reason.

When is Second Winter scheduled to be available? It's a great album.

    Sort of semi-related

Winter's Progressive Blues Experiment is an amazing and seemingly under-appreciated album. You never hear too much about it but imho it is his best.

Any decent version of STILL ALIVE AND WELL out there? My favorite JW album - LOVE "Ain't Nothing to Me" (still remember the lyrics after all these years) and I think the JW version of "Silver Train" blows the Stones version out the window, which is quite an accomplishment - the only other cover version of a stones song I've even heard come close to this is the Burrito Bros version of "Wild Horses."

John: I believe August or September, with the live bonus disc. I got the promos last month, and I think it said late summer or early fall.

Agreed. There was also a recent release of a number of independent singles that he cut before Columbia "discovered" him, that was pretty good, at least historically, too.

Excellent - this is one on my must buy list. Is the Albert Hall concert good?

"Johnny Winter And" and "Johnny Winter And Live" are now packaged together (2CDs) on the BGO label.

Cd Universe lists "And" for $28.55 as an import. Shop around, you may find a better buy, though I like Cd Universe. Maybe Ebay....

I like Second Winter on MFSL cd.

Still Alive and Well on Legacy is not too good IMO.
