Rumors began floating around this morning that Joni Mitchell would be making her return to Newport Folk Festival as a guest of Brandi Carlile. Minutes ago she took the stage.

Joni just played “Just Like This Train” instrumental on the Parker Fly with VG8! It’s the first time she’s used it on stage since 1998!

    How momentous!

Brandi Carlile has been an incredible ambassador for Joni and her music. If anyone could get her on stage, it's Carlile. Truly fantastic. Such good news.

How nice. Great to see her on a stage. The audience must have gone nuts.

    Nice and nostalgic !

I've never seen her...but I've heard her even though I didn't know it. She performed at both the 1968 & 1969 Newport Folk Festival in the field there 1/4 mile from where I lived. I went to the Jazz fests both years as a kid...and all of the shows, both folk & jazz were right outside my window ! I heard lots and lots of vintage acts obliviously...but remember the sound for the weekends they were put on. Wish I'd been a few years older to better of appreciated it !
