But the version of "She's Lost Control" on Substance is a completely different recording from the original on Unknown Pleasures. Unless this is some strange reissue of Substance that has the other version, I'm just wondering how you'd compare the two when they're so different?

Really? I was thinking about something like that as I was really wondering about the difference.. Sorry, I'm no Joy Division-specialist.. So whats the difference? The Discogs-info just mentions another mix, not another recording...
Anyway, the version on "Unknown Pleasures"sounds much better: much more room and depth, the hi hats are way more brilliant and crisp

I have so many new records at the moment but I'll give the substance some more time soon and then I'll definitely write more about it.

It may sounds better as The Porky prime cut is stellar but the cow bell distracts me so much I can't say it is the définitive (as The Peel sessions versions for The same reason). I prefer The second version short and extended versions.

Yeah, the original version has a sparser, more spacious and reverb-heavy sound, with more depth, as you've noticed, whereas the later version found on Substance has a harsher, more upfront sound, especially noticeable in how the drums sound drastically different - very distorted and aggressive. I believe the latter is a re-recorded version, though I suppose it could've been radically remixed? I prefer the Unknown Pleasures version too.

Does anyone know if there are any significant differences between the UK London Records 2007 reissue of UP and the US Rhino/London Records version?

I had thought these were identical masters with the US pressed at Rainbo but the matrices on the UK indicate a different lacquer cut (with no This is the way/step).

Closer does appear to be the same master with the US pressed at Rainbo, the EU not.

UP and Substance She's Lost Control are two different performances of the song. Substance has had 2 different mixes. One was the original 12" mix and the other is an alternate mix which I don't believe has appeared anywhere else and was only on some pressings of Substance (maybe only on CD, I don't know about vinyl). The 2015 Substance created a hybrid edit of the 2 mixes. Using the 12" mix for most of the song and then editing on the longer ending of the alternate mix. The alternate mix potion was shown to be sourced from 44.1khz digital on the hi-res release when I looked at it. So I'm not sure if possibly this was an 80s digital mix or if the only source they could find of this mix was a Substance CD release.

Thanks. Any more thoughts on this? I also saw on Discogs that the US is textured.

c-eling I never dreamed another way.

Yes. The packaging is quite nice. Slightly textured I would say.
Appears to have two different label colors.
    I have the 'silver'

    Edit:
Oops Sorry Marc, I thought you were asking about Closer.

US 2007 is textured, very similar to original.
