Yes, exactly this. It’s a revelation (and a head-scratcher) to me that some people perceive this as filler.
Song 07 - Mr Disco Kind of a bland, generic disco-ey song from them. Again, not much to the lyrics, and not really much of a synth breakdown either. The usual orchestra hits, claps, and various techno sounds are in here. There was talk of making it a single, but it didn't happen. Again, another song that doesn't stand out from the rest - 1/5 Mr. Disco ranks 58th on the list, with 40 plays: From Setlist.fm later -1

Nonsense. For me, "Mr. Disco" is yet another great track on an album full of them. Yet another killer chorus, and as good a use of the orchestral stab as the Pet Shop Boys ever managed. I haven't even listened to Technique in a while, but I can pretty much play this song - any song from this album, for that matter - from start-to-finish in my head.
Same here, 100%. I like that you pointed out the PSB similarity; I never made that connection before, but it makes perfect sense. Mr. Disco isn't as revelatory or epic as the great NO singles, but it's just as enjoyable to me.
Song 08 - Vanishing Point As the album comes to a close, this second to last track is actually another one that was decent, but not great. It's a slightly longer track, so it does have more time to develop. Again, no distinct lyrics to speak of, and some housey keyboards, and drums going on, with the standard orchestra hits and percussion going on. Its about as good as they're going to get for this album : 3.5 /5 Not a single, but there was a instrumental mix of it. So there are some decent fanmixes that incorporate it into the song. Vanishing Point is 34/112 and played 64 times: from setlist.fm later -1
Favorite in 89, same as today -1 4/5 The instrumental break at 3:30 ruined it as good dance/club track. (imo) Shame this never saw a single release, some good commissioned mixes could of been produced. Love Hook's bass line and the 'drive by' effect.
Vanishing Point is a typical NO album track for me: solid, unremarkable filler by NO's standards, but still eminently enjoyable and better than (at least) 95% of pop music. You get the sense that this could have been a true classic had they worked a little harder on it...but the fact that they could toss this off and still come up with a great pop song shows just how great they really were.
Absolutely love Vanishing Point. One of my highlights from Technique, that and Dream Attack make it for me a really strong finish to the record. Love it. 5/5
Song 09 - Dream Attack Here we are at the final closing track to the album, and CD. This midtempo rock track starts off that way, but adds some subtle keyboards to it. It does get it into some breathy vocals, and then a more harder tone towards the end. Touches of pianos, guitar and bass complement it. There is kind of a guitar solo near the end. It kind of just fades out though. Not a very powerful ending. It's not much of standout from the album, since it blends in with the other songs, but it seems fine for the closer of the album. I think it doesn't really follow the previous tones of novelty or just having fun like the other tracks have been. A standard track - 2/5 It stands at 39/112 for live plays at 60 times: From setlist.fm Thanks to everyone participating in the conversation. I know it's been a little uneven. But I will also be going through the bonus tracks for the 2nd cd of the deluxe version (although some have already mentioned them) After that, Republic will be up, and although I'm not a fan of that either. There are a couple of good songs on it that are remixed well. later -1
Track 01 - Don't Do It 4:34 The first track of the bonus disc. This is a very interesting instrumental: The B-side of Fine Time: Neworder* - Fine Time Tracklist A Fine Time 4:42 B1 Don't Do It 4:30 B2 Fine Line 4:43 Total Time: 13:55 Lots of guitars, orchestral sounds, and a sample of a voice saying 'don't put your figure on the button', and some speech. i like it better than fine time: 3/5 later -1
lots of interesting bits about the samples here: Don't Do It & Murder - Digital Republic - Dry 201 Message Pub keith taylor is going to hound you sample : around 2:44 also the machine gun sound and the “we’re going to get you, we’re going to get you ..” samples: including the exorcist reversed. We already covered the next 2 tracks on the bonus disc: 2. "Fine Line" 4:45 3. Can't even say I enjoy Hook's bass on this one. I'm with you on this one. I give it a 1 or maybe zero as I don't even listen to it on the single.
Thanks for posting that. I love "Dream Attack" though and it is my favorite NO closing track of all time. Looking forward to hearing the upcoming live version from 2017.
Playing one of my old and favorite boots today, Electronic Ecstasy from Reading 1993. On cassette no less, with old school boom box!
Nice Jeff! I had this puppy on vinyl in the 90's, ended up gifting it away. (SQ was dismal) Found the same recordings in way better quality a couple years ago on CD. Man I wish they would of done a studio cut of Spark's When I'm With you, Hook's bass works great on this.
Is yours complete gig? The EE boot didn’t include all songs but SQ is pretty good. I think it was from radio broadcast.
Song 06 - MTO (Minus Mix) This song, MTO , was the B-side of run, another house instrumental. The mix has samples from 'fine time' in it also, along with a lot of familiar drum samples, and yells, claps, etc. The mix is better than the single one. For collectors, there was a UK 7 inch promo: Neworder* - Run 2 Neworder* – Run 2 Label: Factory – Fac273/7 Format: Vinyl, 7", Single, Promo Country: UK Released: Aug 1989 Genre: Electronic, Rock Style: House, Synth-pop, Indie Rock Tracklist A Run 2 3:35 B MTO 3:43 Total Time: 7:18 Not a bad one, but not that memorable either. - 2.5/5 ------------------ The only other extra track is the Vanishing Point (Making out mix).. So the next track will be the non-album 'World In Motion' one. later -1
I have a Canadian pressing of Power Corruption and Lies with no 586 on it. only 3 tracks. I cannot find any reference to this. Anyone know of it?
