I recently received a 1980 or 1981 FACTUS repress of Closer. It’s not a true first, but it’s close—it’s from the next run that had the square inner sleeve. I’ve spent some time comparing it to the 2020 40th anniversary vinyl pressing and the 2001 Heart and Soul CD box set (both from Rhino). Well, OG vinyl did it again. The drums are so much better, across every single track, on the OG. I’m such a Stephen Morris fan already, but this might truly be the first time I’ve heard his JD work so clearly. The hi-hat in particular sounds lush, instead of sharp and crashy. The band's overall blend is more harmonious, too—literally, I can hear the tonal interplay between Bernard and Hooky much better on the OG. As disjointed as Hannett’s production style was alleged to be, this pressing makes the album sound like the work of one band totally locked in musically with each other. There is a coherence with the original that I didn’t even know I was missing in the later editions (sort of like how I felt about hearing the White Album in mono on vinyl for the first time). Ian's voice sits in the mix exactly where it can be most haunting, most affecting. This OG pressing sounds like a band of humans. These songs are flesh and blood. Despite the general consensus that this album is “icy,” when I hear this original pressing there is a ton of warmth and even heat here. Even the electronic instruments seem to breathe more deeply—that fabled “air” that digital seems extinguish is present here. It's a very musical mix, if that makes sense—the mix is so ear-pleasing that it makes me want to listen to it over and over. There was something about the 40th anniversary edition that my ears didn't like, and I didn't spin it as much as I would have expected. After all this comparing, honestly I think the 2020 vinyl reissue sounds inferior to the Heart and Soul CDs, and neither can compete with this early FACTUS pressing. Closer is one of my top 5 albums of all time, so I am always listening to it, but I can tell y'all right now, this particular copy is going to be one of the most played records in my collection. Thanks for the review Ken. Exactly how I felt about the old UK Movement. Doesn't surprise me, I've found this to be the case with the early N.O. 7's/12's as well probably up to 86. Early non remastered digitals (where applicable) ie, cd singles/ep's etc.. did a good job as well

Hi all, I am a fan of Joy Division, although apart from a 12" of Blue Monday '88, which I love, I've never really got into New Order, I did buy their Singles 2CD years ago which I barely remember, so after seeing this thread I'm going to play it again .
Never come across access to one, especially in good shape to risk at those prices. *LP I have Canada Emile Lepine cut US Qwest Precision 2009 *Compact Disc West Germany For Canada 11 track US Qwest UK Nimbus (non metallic) Japan Remaster Deluxe 2010

Great collection neg1! PM me if you're looking to part with that extra Touched. I still need the Dub Edit.
Confusion instrumental on the remaster deluxe, dub on the good old Touched cd single True Faith Dub? Cover's beat up, found this of all places locally for a few bucks couple years ago But yeah Jeff, some are either missing in good digital mastering's or digital at all. Full length Shell Shock and Shell Cock.
I have so many duplicates, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Maybe when I actually sort out what I have, I can figure it out. But, yes, will let you know. I'd prefer a trade, looking for some of those confusion colored 7 inch promos, or maybe even the tears for fears pale shelted 7 inchers colored, or other bands. later -1
Y’all inspired me to get out my old CD and cassette of Brotherhood. I’m chuckling at the note on the back of the CD about how “the Compact Disc can reveal limitations of the source tape.” New Order - Brotherhood New Order - Brotherhood
