I've seen a CD in Border's that contains Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings Of Destiny with a cover resembeling[sic]SWOD.Don't know the label it came from-it looks like it came out recently.P.S.:I'm probably the only one here who liked the 2001 JP remasters.:hide:

Once again - old Repertoire CDs are the only way to go for both Sad Wings and Rocka Rolla!

I like the Priest remasters as well, especially Unleashed In The East with 4 additional tracks. The bonus tracks on the others aren't worth mentioning for the most part.

I also have the Koch Sad Wings Of Destiny - it's decent enough although I don't have anything to compare against.

Worthy only because of the bonus songs, and especially Unleashed, as you said. Otherwise check what a remastered Painkiller looks like

The best version for the first two are the recent Victor japan 20 bit k 2 discs VICP-61651 sad wings. The translux and koch are all compressed and dont sound right. I used to have the old rca and it was good but this newer version blows them all away. Also, that version of rocka rolla is the only one to have the tracks properly indexed, and that version of hero, hero is the only one still around to use the correct masters, the translux and koch hero hero's are just comps so if those two record companies didnt even recognize that they had the wrong material to master with its a problem. Try the victor or get one of the older pressings.

Do you have any screen caps from the 20-bit Japanese Sad Wings?

Did anyone download my Attic Records sample?

They did - but as much as I usualy love K2 Victors in Priest's case Repertoire CDs were better.

There is a newer Japanese K2 24-bit CD, as well as the 2002 K2 20-bit version. Has anyone heard this newer version? I was all set to pick up the 2002 K2, based on how excellent I thought the 2002 K2 of "Hero, Hero" was. I really like the first two Priest albums, and want the definitive versions of each. The Snapper versions are good, but not quite right IMO.

I have this one. Sounds good to me, but I'll have to give it another listen this evening:

    Judas Priest
    Sad Wings Of Destiny
    1976 / 1992
Gull Records / Teichiku Record Co.

I just picked up the 1995 Repertoire issue of Sad Wings of Destiny and I think it sounds great.

I have the Koch and the Snapper. I much prefer the Snapper. The Snapper sounds lively and dynamic compared to the Koch which sounds lifeless and dull and muffled. BTW, my Snapper has a glitch in the last song, Island of Domination. A spot where it sounds like the tape sped up and then slowed down during mastering. (Made a CD-R with IOD from the Koch.) I have a bunch of vinyl versions of this one and Rocka Rolla, and none of them sound that good. I also have the Snapper for Rocka Rolla, and I really like that one too. The top end just sounds a lot more open than any of the vinyl copies I have (or the Koch of Sad Wings), and the midrange has more power and impact on both of the Snappers.

I guess to be a completist, I need to keep an eye out for some of the other versions mentioned.

And you think the Victor Japan isn't compressed? I have the Koch, and the screen caps of the Victor up there don't look much different.

I am working on getting a Repetoire (turns out they aren't that hard to find). I'd be surprised if it's better than the Snapper, but I'm curious enough to find out. :)

I have a Korean pressing of the "Sad Wings Of Destiny" album on vinyl and it sounds fantastic. Even though the album is from 1976 and the LP is a re-pressing from 1986, it does not sound like a dub-tape cut at all. The sound is fat, warm and dynamic. Highly recommend edition if someone wants it on vinyl.
