Yeah changing a few seconds of one track is the same as re-recording bass lines for about 150 songs!

You're now comparing a permanent member of the band with a guest musician.

"No one can agree on Rolfgate" I'm not a crook!

I remember couple weeks before the box came that's what everyone was talking about.

Kate has never made a statement about Rolf Harris to my knowledge. I suspect she took the opportunity just to give us all more Bertie.

I think removing him from Aerial and his credit from The Dreaming is the only statement she needs to make.

This seems like a good place to stop.

Still enjoying the first box. The Red Shoes sounds great.

Me too. Before the Dawn was a great way to reintroduce me to songs from The Red Shoes. The new master has a nice “warm” presentation.

    Yes.

I don't really know the rules here... A thread can be closed and re-opened? Looks like it...

Software glitch or errant Gort-click likely reopened the thread.

So is this the 1993 original remastered, and not the analogue remaster from a few years back?

My understanding is that it is a new mastering from the same analogue copy tape source used for the previous remaster, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s the analogue version.

Thanks, that's too bad. I'd like to have them both remastered.

From memory, The Red Shoes is a digital recording and the "analogue" was only at the mixing stage.

I have both 'The Red Shoes' 2011 remaster and the 2018 remaster.
    They ARE different.
If you're looking for a warm, tender, sibilance-free version, go with the 2011 remaster:
    it's GREAT.
The 2018's, to my ears, is a compromise between the tinny 1993 original release (to avoid...) and the
warmer and delightful sounding 2011 remaster.

PS THANKYOU for re-opening this thread. there's so much to say about these remasters ;)

Yes, I know, but it is a different mix. But if Giumag is right, then not all is lost :)

In fact, we now actually have 3 versions of 'The Red Shoes': 1993, 2011 and 2018.
Feel free to get the one you prefer ;)

I don't know whether I am the only one here noticing this about the Bonus CDs:
they decided to sequence the songs - apparently - at random, without taking into
consideration the time/year when they were originally released.
I am not criticizing this decision.
But there is a problem: while remastering the masters of those old songs (some dated back to the mid-70s,
others the 90s), they didn't try to gel them as a whole and cohesive ''group'': as a result
one can immediately hear a difference in sound. You can hear and feel they were recorded at different times,
at different studios and - probably - by different sound engineers.
I personally feel these bonus CDs lack homogeneity in sound. My idea is they didn't even try to.
While the meaning of ''remaster'', and correct me if I'm wrong, ought to imply the quite hard task
to combine anything together so as to create a cohesive-sounding album.
I'll give you one example: we have a song like 'Warm And Soothing' (which sounds warm and tender)
next to 'Show A Little Devotion' (which sounds so digital and trebly....). They just don't gel together, sonically.
They remain separate sonic entities, don't they?
I point out I'm not criticising the artistry behind these songs... and the single albums simply have gone though a beautiful and
    respectful remastering process.
I'd like to hear from far more adept members ;)

I believe it was a digital recording, but an analog tape copy of the digital master (or, more accurately, a tape copy of a slightly different mix than was used for the master) was used for the 2011 version. My understanding is that it was also used for the 2018 remaster, but with a new mastering.

I've just listened to The Kick Inside from the box, and only in the car, but I could immediately tell that Kate's vocals sound less shrill than on my copy in This Woman's Work, where I was always worried about turning the volume up too far!

Perhaps, but I like the sequencing in terms of the music - especially In Other's Words which works well as an album I think.

Have you also noticed how brand new 'Moving' is now? it almost seems as if it's been remixed (although it's not). The music and the BV's are ''nearer''
    without sounding too bright.
