No clue, how many forum members are doing films or mixing them.
My last documentary was invited to the International Berlin Film Festival, Berlinale, in 2021.
I filmed it in Europe and Chile.
The film tells the fall of the Berlin Wall from the point of view of classical dancers but also how they grew up in a socialist regime. The training of ballet students in the GDR was - as in Russia - very hard, but also produced world-class dancers.
Citizens of the GDR were not allowed to travel the west, but the dancers could, and many defected,
though the secret service sent agents with them. Defecting really meant to leave everything behind,
family, friends and in some cases, even your children...

Because of budget constraints, I had to do EVERYTHING myself - including a Surround and Stereo Mix,
both from scratch, so there was no upmix from Stereo to surround. 48 Tracks. Without a mixing desk. On Apple's defunct "Soundtrack" as this was the only possibility to monitor surround sound without surround hardware.
"Mixing" just the speech took about two weeks as I did only use limiters but no compressors.
So when people were talking dynamically, it was all evened out by working with the volume.
Still, the version for streaming is stereo, to take advantage of the bandwidth.
So pretty cool for an A-Festival, to be invited with a staff of one person - two friends did boom
the sound sometimes, but both are non-pros.
I fact, the only advice was: "Aim to the mouth, if the red light comes up, it is too loud".
BTW, I never visited Film-School, but have some experience as an editor for about 30 years.
