Just a quick correction - Doris was around 30 there - she was born in '15 (and passed in '07, at 91). Keith's dad, Bert, made it from '15 to '02, as well.

    My point?

With those genes, there's a chance that 20 years from now we're going to be looking at the following photo and thinking "God, he was so young then - he looks like hell now!"

All true but I think Anita made (or more to the point Keith's infatuation and chivalry) him believe it was a real rescuing.

Thank you for making me aware of the mistake.
I did find that incorrect info somewhere on The Interwebs™. I will fire that person.

In life, both genes and jeans are important.

At one point, he considered going to school to become a librarian.

    Daily Mail:
The 66-year-old is said to have started painstakingly arranging copies of rare books about the history of early American rock and the Second World War using libraries standard Dewey Decimal classification system.
Despite apparently giving up on the idea because it was 'too much hassle', he still takes pride in displaying his favourite books ...
He once said: "When you are growing up there are two institutional places that affect you most powerfully: the church, which belongs to God and the public library, which belongs to you. The public library is a great equaliser."

And: Keith Richards Owes ‘50 Years’ Of Library Fines

I'd imagine that if Keith Richards shushes you, you stay shushed. :tsk:

I would concur with others here that good genetics/DNA is a major factor for Keef's staying power. After reading his autobiography I also think some other factors are that he was careful for the most part with what kinds of drugs he used and how much he knew he could handle, especially heroin. Other factors IMO would be that he handled fame very well, loved his profession and going to work. Keef seemed to take all the rock and roll excesses in stride and just enjoyed the wild ride for the most part. He comes across as a down to earth common man who always had good friends and is happy with himself and his life.

All true but he did have trouble with the Stones fame and heroin was a buffer.

    or Chollie
I have to think Keef and Chollie have spoken about retiring. I read a Keef-ism years ago where he said something to the effect that he just could never play a Stones show without looking up and seeing Chollie there, always rock solid.

The smiling Avatar of Joni you had for some time was so grandly magnificent I assumed it to be permanent.
You can'take get bored quickly with everything as (for eg) you have learnt to research & write skillfully and inclusively.

I know he wasn't a choir boy throughout his whole career and did have some slacker issues with the band later in the 70's and 80's. There was trouble around the time Mick did his solo lp's as well. As for heroin, I'm sure Keef got into it simply because it was a great high, he could afford it and he was able to get very high grade junk to get the maximum buzz and minimize the risks.
