Stop the presses and cue all the bulletin/breaking news slides! He hasn't had one since October. Maybe he actually WILL outlive us all (and the cockroaches). :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Keith Richards quit smoking - just in time for the Rolling Stones tour - CNN

I did a search for this and didn't see it posted yet, if it's duplication mods please delete or merge my comment.

I say good for him. Anecdotal stories of people smoking 5 packs a day and living to 99 aside, I've seen those things wreak too much misery on folks to romanticize the habit.

Do any of them smoke anymore? I've not seen Mick pictured with one in decades, I know Woody quit when he had the lung cancer scare and I figure Charlie did when he had the throat cancer scare, and I know Bill quit a while back when the doctor told him he was one step away from the point of no return with emphysema (which IMO is worse in some ways than the Big C).

I wholeheartedly think Keith is going to outlive every other member of The Stones, Beatles and Beach Boys.

    (Probably combined ;))

It's sad that now I have more vices than he does.

I mean this half seriously: I hope it isn't too great a shock to his body.

Good for him. Quitting smoking was by far the most difficult thing I have ever done.

  17. "Was it difficult to quit smoking after all of these years, Keith?"

"At first, yeah. But then I discovered that anytime I wanted a smoke, I'd just run a line of China White, and pow, no more cravings for cigarettes, ya know? Works like magic, man!"

Comedian Denis Leary said one of the funniest lines regarding Keith Richards that I've ever heard, in his hilarious "No Cure For Cancer" special. It went something like this ...

"I read an interview in a magazine recently where Keith Richards intimated that kids shouldn't do drugs. Keith we can't do any more drugs because you already f#$%ing did 'em all. There's none left and now we have to wait until you die, so we can smoke your ashes".

Note: I have never smoked myself (thankfully), but I thought THAT was funny!

He seems to have emphysema or COPD. I first noticed it when he was on that idiot Jimmy Fallon’s show promoting his book. He takes shallow breaths

All joking aside I don't think smoking has affected his ability to perform that much. Maybe he's feeling it now. His health doesn't matter to me personally and his habits are his own choices and responsibilities. When I think of someone whose ability to perform has been compromised by heavy smoking it's always Dylan, not Keith Richards.
